Biodiversity Conservancy Nepal Biodiversity Conservancy Nepal is a not-for-profit research institution promoting biodiversity conservation and sustainable development in Nepal.

At BioCoN, we believe that biodiversity conservation and sustainable development are inter-related and focus on harvesting long-term social, economic, and ecological benefits, via sustainable utilization of natural resources, for the common good. Clearly, biodiversity conservation can’t be envisioned without using these resources sustainably, and sustainable development, similarly, is unconceivabl

e without ensuring the conservation our natural resources. BioCoN, hence, is determined on conserving and sustainably utilizing biodiversity at ecosystem, species, and genetic levels in an effort to securing and safeguarding them for the future.

We recently wrapped up an exciting 3-day Wildlife Conservation Workshop with 10 undergraduate students from Kathmandu University and 4 recent graduates, blending classroom learning with real-world field experience. Over the first two days, participants explored the fundamentals of wildlife conservation, modern field techniques like camera traps, GIS applications in wildlife research, and the fascinating world of pangolins and their conservation. The training was highly practical, allowing students to work directly with tools and techniques used by conservation professionals.

The learning didn’t stop in the field. On the third day, these newly trained young conservationists stepped into the role of educators by conducting school awareness programs in four different schools of Chautara Sangachokgadi Municipality, Sindhupalchok District, reaching more than 600 students. Through interactive sessions, they shared messages on wildlife protection and pangolin conservation, while distributing books, brochures and stickers to make learning fun and memorable.

This initiative was not just about training, it was about creating ripple effects of awareness and action from universities to classrooms and communities. A heartfelt thank you to the Taronga Foundation and the Mohammed bin Zayed Species Conservation Fund for their invaluable support in making this project possible.

Together, we are nurturing the next generation of conservation leaders and inspiring hundreds of young minds to care for wildlife and nature. 🌱

Students gather to learn about pangolins during World Pangolin Day 2025, fostering a new generation of wildlife guardians. Through interactive education, over 120 young minds from Bethanchok Rural Municipality discovered the vital ecology of these endangered mammals and the urgent need for their conservation.

Special thanks to The Rufford Foundation and Stiftung Artenschutz for making this possible.
