World Wetlands Day

Wetlands are among the most productive ecosystems on Earth. They support rich biodiversity, regulate water, reduce floods, store carbon, and sustain millions of people through fisheries, agriculture, and livelihoods.

From microscopic organisms to top predators, and from local communities to global climate systems, wetlands connect all life.

Protecting wetlands is not a choice, it’s a responsibility.

Dear Fishing Cat enthusiasts, the Terai Fishing Cat Project, Nepal is pleased to share fishing cat clips with you. It's our pleasure to go field with Mr. Hari Adhikari, who has captured clips of fishing cats multiple times.

Fishing cats are powerful swimmers, perfectly adapted to life in and around water. Their partially webbed feet, dense coat, and strong body allow them to move smoothly through ponds and marshes while hunting fish and other aquatic prey. Observations like this remind us of the uniqueness of these wetland specialists and the importance of protecting the habitats they depend on.

Mr. Hari Adhikari is a dedicated yoga master and an experienced nature guide who has spent many years exploring and interpreting the rich wildlife of Meghauli and the surrounding wetlands of Chitwan National Park. Alongside running his homestay, he shares his deep respect for nature with every visitor who walks with him into the forest.
