Meet Amit (name changed), a Grade X student and National Child Club Treasurer of SOS Children's Villages Nepal, and a young changemaker helping friends make safer choices!

“What would you do if a friend offered you a cigarette just to look ‘cool’?” 🚭 That’s one of the questions Amit asked during a child-friendly awareness session on substance abuse with 43 students from Classes 6–10.

Through interactive discussions and relatable examples, he explained how harmful substances like ci******es and alcohol can affect our body, mind and future.

Students openly talked about peer pressure, curiosity and stress and why saying “NO” can sometimes be the bravest choice.
Amit also reminded everyone that they are never alone. If someone forces or influences them, they should always speak to a counselor, teacher, or trusted guardian. 🤝

The best part? Children learning from children! 💙

By sharing experiences and supporting one another, young people can help create a safer, healthier and more confident generation.

🖐️ “My body, my rules!”
Learning about safety can be fun, empowering, and important at the same time! 💛

SOS Children’s Village Pokhara recently organised an interactive session on safe and unsafe touch for 26 children from Grades 1–4 and 10 Child Club members.

Through engaging activities, discussions, games and confidence-building exercises, children learned:
1. The difference between safe and unsafe touch
2. That it is always okay to speak up and report unsafe situations
3. How to say “NO” firmly and confidently when they feel uncomfortable

Most importantly, the session reminded every child that safe touch makes them feel respected, cared for and protected. 🤝

Because every child deserves to feel safe, heard and empowered. 💙

✨ Where girls lead, change begins.
At SOS Children’s Villages Nepal, we believe that when girls and women are empowered to learn, lead and participate, families grow stronger and communities become more inclusive, resilient and full of opportunity for every child. 💛

Learning + Fun = The Best Combination!
At SOS Children’s Village Lumbini, children recently took part in an exciting Child and Youth Safeguarding (CYS) awareness session designed specially for their age groups. From interactive discussions to fun-filled quizzes, the day was all about learning how to stay safe, show respect and speak up with confidence. 🌟

The sessions used child-friendly activities, games and engaging conversations to help children better understand safeguarding and the support systems available to them. A pre-test and post-test were conducted to see how much students learned and the results showed wonderful improvement! ✨

The quiz competition added extra energy and excitement, with children actively participating, answering questions and learning together in a joyful environment.

Providing Child and Youth Safeguarding (CYS) information and awareness from an early age is extremely important, as it helps children recognize safe and unsafe situations, build confidence, and know where to seek support when needed. 💙

Creating safe, supportive, and happy spaces for children starts with awareness and our young learners proved that learning important lessons can also be fun!

Shova (name changed) and her husband embraced kinship care when their young nephew, Asim (name changed), needed a safe and stable home after experiencing profound loss within his immediate family.

Already raising a child of their own, the couple stepped forward without hesitation. For them, caring for Asim was not an obligation, but a natural extension of family responsibility—rooted in love, dignity and protection.

Since July 2024, the family has been supported through kinship care by SOS Children's Villages Nepal, helping them meet Asim’s education and daily needs. “He is not just adjusting—he is growing into a confident, joyful child,” Shova shares.

The support has helped ease the family’s financial pressure, allowing Shova and her husband to focus on what matters most: providing emotional security and consistent care for both children.

Their journey reflects the essence of kinship care: keeping children within familiar family environments wherever possible, so they can grow up surrounded by connection, stability, and love during times of transition.

From April 3–7, something refreshing rolled out at SOS Children’s Village Bharatpur—and no, it wasn’t just another school activity… it was Yoga Week!✨

Students from Grades 3–7 kicked off each day with calming breaths and gentle stretches. They flowed through Surya Namaskar, building strength, flexibility, and coordination (and maybe a few impressive poses along the way👀). With fun, age-friendly asanas and relaxation techniques, every session was safe, engaging, and full of positive energy.

But it wasn’t just about movement…
🌿 Better posture & balance
🌿 Calmer minds & sharper focus
🌿 Boosted confidence & teamwork

And here’s what matters most 💛
At SOS Children’s Villages Nepal, mental health and emotional well-being are a priority. Through activities like yoga, children are given safe spaces to slow down, manage stress, express themselves, and build inner resilience: skills that stay with them for life.

The best part? The enthusiasm was contagious! Students showed up, stretched out, and shined brighter each day 🌞

A week of yoga, a lifetime of benefits 🧡

“What… me?” Pallavi froze for a second as her name was announced for Student of the Year 2082. Then came the applause: loud, warm and full of excitement from her classmates.

Each year, the school recognises one girl and one boy for discipline, good behaviour, active participation, neatness and academic performance. This year, Pallavi from SOS Children’s Villages Nepal stood proudly among them.

“I feel really happy and proud,” she said. “This makes me want to keep doing better.”

For Pallavi (name changed), this wasn’t just an award. It was a moment she will remember, a simple but powerful reminder that her hard work is seen.

SOS Children’s Villages Nepal supports children and young people with quality care, access to education, life skills and a nurturing environment where they can grow with confidence and dignity. Pallavi’s achievement reflects what becomes possible when consistent support meets determination.

And maybe, for someone else in that hall, it was a little push to keep trying too. ✨

This Mother’s Day, we recognise the strength and agency of mothers like Poonam (35), who is working to realise her children’s rights to a safe, healthy and fulfilling future. 💛🌼 🤱🏽

While balancing household responsibilities, childcare and seasonal farming, Poonam leads the Laxmi Women’s Group in Lahan, creating spaces for women to access information on nutrition, sanitation and child rights and to support one another. ❤️

With support from SOS Children’s Villages Nepal, Poonam is strengthening her capacity to ensure her daughters’ rights to education, health and well-being through access to school supplies, hygiene kits and learning opportunities. At the same time, she is building her economic resilience through animal farming. “As I have no formal education, animal farming is a good source of livelihood for me,” she shares. 🤱🏽

Today, Poonam is working towards a more secure and sustainable future. Her daughter Ranju (name changed), a Grade V student, aspires to become a teacher, reflecting how enabling environments help children realise their potential.

This Mother’s Day, we honour mothers like Poonam, who are not only caregivers, but active agents of change. 🌸 🌼
