Darkness is habitat! Around the world, International Dark Sky Places are helping protect some of the planet’s most sensitive nocturnal ecosystems by reducing light pollution and restoring more natural nights.
From sea turtles navigating coastlines and migrating birds traveling overhead to pollinators, mammals, amphibians, and countless other species that depend on darkness to survive, these places demonstrate that protecting the night is also protecting biodiversity.
This World Environment Day, we celebrate the parks, communities, reserves, sanctuaries, and protected areas working to keep the night wild.
Because a healthy environment doesn’t end at sunset. Learn more about our International Dark Sky Places program: https://bit.ly/3R13BhL
