During Arctic Frontiers 2026 (tag them), two of our Directors, Olga Ievleva and Conor Savage, met with representatives of the Embassy of Canada in Norway and Global Affairs Canada.

We thank Counsellor Marie-France Russo, Senior Political and Public Affairs Officer & Senior Trade Officer, Bjørn Petter Hernes, and Project Leader for Global Affairs Canada, Laurie Pierr Vezina for their time. 🌿As we enter the new year, we would like to reflect on the incredible Regional Youth Meet-up shared through the Youth Together for Arctic Futures project in Inuvik, Northwest Territories, from Nov 12–14, 2025.

Over three days, we gathered with local youth and young professionals to learn in community, guided by the overarching themes of Biodiversity and Environmental Sustainability.

Together, we explored:
• Inclusive Collaboration & Empowerment 🤝
• Introduction to Journalism 📝
• Climate & Nature 🌎
• Creative Advocacy 🎨
• Cultural Day – Ukpik Making 🦉

This time we spent together created space to discuss local challenges, share lived realities, and collectively explore solutions rooted in place. It was a meaningful opportunity to listen, learn, and gain deeper insight into the environmental and social realities facing the Northwest Territories.

We were especially grateful to be joined by both youth and Elders, whose presence enriched every conversation and helped create a platform that reflected and honoured cultural values and knowledge carried across generations.

💛 A heartfelt thank you to everyone who joined us, and to the community partnerships that made this event possible—your support and collaboration brought this experience to life.

We move forward with gratitude for the conversations shared, the relationships built, and the perspectives that will continue to shape our work.

🌟 We are thankful for this past year and excited for the upcoming Regional Youth Meet-ups in Cambridge Bay, NT and Greenland! Where we will continue learning, growing, and making an impact together.

Check out AYOs panel for the fourth and final online event in the “Why Care?” webinar series, this time on governance & coastal communities in the Arctic Ocean!

❄️🌊 In a roundtable debate with our moderator Sebastian, International Ocean Governance Expert and Advisor at the Norwegian Institute for Water Research (NIVA), these four youth panelists will discuss the question “Why Care?” about governance & coastal communities in the Arctic Ocean.

Deniz is a PhD researcher at the Alfred Wegener Institute whose work focuses on Arctic coastal and permafrost dynamics in a rapidly changing climate to support adaptation efforts for northern communities. Alongside her research, Deniz is deeply engaged in science communication and outreach, working at the intersection of science and public engagement to foster polar literacy.

Laura holds a master’s degree in environmental law, sustainable development, and food security from Université Laval and is a lecturer in Indigenous law at the Université du Québec en Abitibi-Témiscamingue (UQAT). She currently pursues a PhD that is part of the Wealth of the Arctic Groups of Experts (WAGE) partnership, which focuses on economic and social inequalities in the Arctic and circumpolar North.

Natalia is a PhD candidate in Law at Université Laval and examines the participation of Indigenous peoples and the protection of their rights in free trade and investment agreements in her doctoral research. Originally from Colombia, Natalia is interested in the necessary reconciliation between human rights and the global economic system.
