s committed against the Uyghurs and other Turkic peoples in East Turkistan (aka. UTJD was founded in 2017 as a project of the Norwegian Uyghur Committee and became an independent nonprofit organization in 2019. We have started building reality-based detailed 3D models of internment camps in VR, and possibly in the foreseeable future also 3D models of historical mosques, sacred tombs, and other cultural relics/sites that have been (partially) demolished by the Chinese regime. We aim to create a virtual interactive museum in the future, featuring all things related to the Uyghurs and other Turkic peoples in East Turkistan. We publish reports and books, e.g., 100 Camp Testimonies and Remolding the Uyghurs to Fit the Han-ethnocentric Mold. We also submit reports and policy recommendations to governments.

Forced labor is not a distant issue - it exists within the systems and products we rely on every day.

From supply chains to everyday goods, forced labor has been linked to global industries and international markets, often hidden behind complex production networks.

The Uyghur Transitional Justice Database brought together youth voices for a panel discussion on forced labor and ethical trade, engaging representatives from Rød Ungdom , Sosialistisk Ungdom, Grønn Ungdom, and Unge Venstre.

Grounded in UTJD’s 2024 report, the discussion highlighted ongoing risks of forced labor in global supply chains — including sectors tied to the green transition — and the urgent need for stronger accountability and enforcement.

Youth policymakers shared their perspectives on how Norway can promote ethical trade and ensure human rights remain at the center of global production.

This event took place with the support of the Uyghur Youth Initiative.

The Untold Stories of the Uyghurs: Voices of Resistance Under Oppression

The Uyghur Transitional Justice Database is honored to announce the launch of its third book in the Uyghur language.

The book documents pivotal and traumatic periods, including the Land Reform campaigns, the Great Cultural Revolution, the Central Asian Migration Wave, the Gulja Massacre, the July 5 Urumqi Massacre, and the large-scale repression that intensified after 2014. Each account stands as a record of lived experience, preserving memory where silence was imposed.

As readers turn these pages, they will hear not only the pain born of decades of oppression, but also the unquenchable voice of resistance – a people who refused to bow even under the harshest conditions.

On November 4th, Munire Yakup and Pezilet Yakup delivered a lecture at the University of Innlandet, in collaboration with YATA Lillehammer (Youth Atlantic Treaty Association).

The lecture addressed the Uyghur crisis, focusing on key themes such as transnational oppression and witnessing. They also introduced the work of the Uyghur Transitional Justice Database (UTJD).

Events like this play a crucial role in raising awareness and fostering dialogue among students, researchers, and the broader public about the ongoing repression faced by Uyghurs and other Turkic peoples in East Turkistan.

Human Rights Advocacy Day

On 18 September 2025, the University of South-Eastern Norway (USN) Campus Drammen hosted Advocacy Day 2025, an inspiring gathering dedicated to dialogue on human rights, democracy, and global solidarity. Organized by Scholars at Risk (SAR) Advocacy at USN, the event brought together students, academics, and activists to reflect on pressing challenges in human rights advocacy.

The program opened with a warm welcome followed by a musical performance by music students. Their performance set a reflective and uplifting tone for the day ahead. Shortly after, Adiljan Abdurihim, Coordinator of the Uyghur Transitional Justice Database (UTJD), delivered a presentation on human rights violations and the systematic oppression of Uyghurs in East Turkistan. The session, chaired by Christian and Arathana, highlighted the urgency of addressing global injustices while connecting them to broader conversations on advocacy.

Advocacy Day 2025 at USN was more than just an academic seminar. It became a space for transformative learning, solidarity, and collective reflection. By bringing together voices from across the world, the event demonstrated the importance of standing united in the defence of human rights and democracy.
