From Hommersåk, Norway, Johannes is a Juris Doctor Candidate at Wake Forest University School of Law. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in English, summa cm laude, with a minor in Creative Writing from Lees-McRae College. As a rising third-year student, he is eager to continue developing professional skills through academic engagement and hands-on legal experience. Introducing the 2026-27 NORAM scholars: meet Masod Yousufi!

Masod is from Lillehammer, Norway. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU), where his thesis analyzed the carbon footprint of wildlife crossings in Norway, focusing on concrete and timber construction. He has interned at Skanska Norway and is the founder of ByggBrukt, a platform for the reuse of surplus construction materials. After spending a year at the University of California, Berkeley as an exchange student, he now returns to pursue a Master of Science in Construction Systems, where he aims to explore how AI can support more sustainable building practices.

Introducing the 2026-27 NORAM scholars: meet Didrik Wiig-Andersen!

Didrik is pursuing a Master of Science in Engineering in Software Systems and Cybersecurity at the University of Pennsylvania. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Engineering and a Bachelor of Science in Economics from the University of Pennsylvania. Besides his academics, Didrik enjoys scholarly research. He has written two papers in the field of Finance and been a research assistant in the Digital and Computational Pathology Lab at Penn Medicine. Didrik is originally from Tønsberg, Norway and enjoys skiing, reading, and traveling. Over the past summers he has worked at DNB Asset Management and Kongsberg Defense & Aerospace.

Introducing the 2026-27 NORAM scholars: meet Maya Westerlund!

Maya Sidney Westerlund is a graduate student at Georgetown University pursuing a Master of Science in Foreign Service with a concentration in Geoeconomics, Business & Finance, alongside studies in Hebrew. She holds a bachelor's degree from BI Norwegian Business School in Oslo and has picked up experience along the way through management consulting internships at BCG, PwC, and EY, as well as startup work in Oslo. Maya is currently a Wallenberg Fellow in Sweden, completing a corporate and investment banking internship at SEB. Outside of work and study, she enjoys running, playing piano, and traveling. She looks forward to exploring how macroeconomics shapes and drives financial markets during her time ahead in the MSFS program.

Introducing the 2026-27 NORAM scholars: meet Christian Viken-Slåtten!

Christian is from Asker, Norway, and is pursuing a Master’s degree in Industrial Economics and Technology Management at NTNU, specializing in Mechanical and Energy Engineering. As part of his studies, he will spend time at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), where he looks forward to deepening his knowledge of technical subjects and optimization while exploring how to tackle complex engineering and energy-related challenges. Alongside his studies, he has worked as a teaching assistant and private tutor, developing an interest in teaching and helping others succeed academically. Outside of academics, Christian enjoys strength training, alpine skiing, and spending time hiking in nature.

Introducing the 2026-27 NORAM scholars: meet Frederik Seim!

Frederik, a native of Bergen, earned his bachelor's degree at the Norwegian School of Economics (NHH). His early career included internships in investment banking and private equity in companies such as Carnegie Investment Bank and Altor Equity Partners, before he joined McKinsey & Company in Oslo as a full-time Business Analyst. He has since enrolled in an MBA at Columbia Business School in New York. Drawn to international engagement since volunteering as a teacher in Nepal at seventeen and in Zambia at twenty-four, Frederik is driven by a desire to make a meaningful impact. He enjoys football, tennis, reading books, and building lasting friendships.

Introducing the 2026-27 NORAM scholars: meet Emma Ryen!

Emma is from Hamar, Norway, and holds a bachelor's degree in Economics and Business Administration from the Norwegian School of Economics (NHH). Prior to starting her master's, she worked in private equity in Oslo and Stockholm. Now in her second year at Columbia University, Emma has thoroughly enjoyed the programme, with a strong focus on fundamental analysis. Alongside her studies, she has taken the opportunity to travel around the United States. She looks forward to her final semester this fall and continuing to deepen her expertise in finance.

Introducing the 2026-27 NORAM scholars: meet Arya Rogne!

Arya is a Master’s student in English Literature at North Dakota State University. She grew up on Longva outside Ålesund, Norway, and previously studied Theatre Studies and Comparative Literature at the University of Bergen. Her master’s project examines adaptation to life in North Dakota and its Norwegian cultural heritage, in dialogue with narratives of Norwegian settlers from over a century ago. Her interests include knitting, poetry, hiking, and brewing kombucha. She looks forward to further developing her master’s project as she completes her degree in the United States.

Introducing the 2026-27 NORAM scholars: meet Tiril Celine Opsahl Nystad!

Tiril is from Bodø. She earned a Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education from Nord University in 2022 before moving to the United States to pursue social work. She completed her BSW in 2025 at the University of West Florida and is currently working on her MSW. She enjoys playing pickleball and attending hockey games. Through her studies and internship at the Military and Veterans Resource Center, she developed a strong interest in supporting military members, veterans, and their families. She looks forward to learning more about veteran support systems and mental health services, and exploring how successful approaches can be adapted and implemented in Norway.
