Sharara is a new spark of creativity igniting from Tulkarem and its camps in Palestine. Beginning as an idea at the beginning of the year, Sharara has since developed into its own independent theatre group, delivering workshops, a summer camp, creating new work, establishing a physical theatre building and more.
Tulkarem, in the northern West Bank, has faced relentless Israeli invasions, attacks, and killings. Mass arrests have seen hundreds of Palestinians blindfolded and taken away at gunpoint. Its two camps, Nur Shams and Tulkarem Refugee Camp, have been heavily bulldozed and bombed, with huge areas razed. Their populations have been forcibly displaced, leaving thousands refugees for a second time.
