Bengali Cultural Association Oslo

Bengali Cultural Association Oslo The Bengali Cultural Association, a Socio-Cultural Organization under the aegis of the Indian social-cultural traditions.

The Bengali Cultural Association, a Socio-Cultural Organization under
the aegis of the Indian social-cultural traditions. This association is
the glorious achievement of the long cherished dream of the expatriate
Bengali community started trickling to Norway from the Indian State of
West Bengal since the last forty years. Though formally established in
2010, it has been the result of a contin

uous process of a desire of
socio – cultural relationship – to be in the motherland, away from the
motherland. The situation of instability and recluse could not deter the
earnest enthusiasm of a few individuals to cultivate and start the
process of sowing the seeds of this dream and then grooming over the
years and finally transforming it to a vibrant organization. The history of this organisation lay in the gallant sacrifices and
contributions of these individuals and will be remembered by all
forever. The Assoiciation aims to provide its members a platform with
the opportunity to take part in different cultural programs, exchange
ideas and discuss issues concerning us. The aim of this organisation is
to promote Bengali culture and traditions and draw attention to the
remarkable contribution Bengalis have made to the Norwegian society. The
last few years has seen the second generation establishing itself in the
Norwegian society, excelling in education and progressing to
professional jobs both in private and public sectors. However there is
an ever-growing vacuum among these Bengalis who are increasingly feeling
the distance and seclusion from their local communities. We hope that
this organisation will able to bringing together a strong network of
Bengalis to collectively share their successes and raise their profile
in Norway. At Bengali Cultural Association, Oslo, we pride ourselves in the daily
contribution to individual and community well being. We believe that by
sharing common values we can increase the opportunity of each individual
in the community.

🌼 Call for Submissions | ISHA – Second Issue | Durga Puja 2026 🌼

Every story deserves a home.

The first issue of ISHA was published in 2017. After a long pause, we are bringing it back — and we could not think of a better occasion than Durga Puja 2026.

ISHA was born from a simple wish: to give our children a creative space where their voices matter. A place where a drawing, a half-formed poem, or a memory from back home can find its place on a page. But this is not just for the young ones, it is for all of us who carry stories we have not yet told.

✍️ Contributions are welcome from all ages.

📖 Categories:
• Short Stories • Poetry • Essays • Memoirs • Photography & Artwork • Other Creative Works

Submissions are welcome in Bengali, English, and Norwegian.

📧 Submit to:
[email protected]

📅 Deadline: 1 August 2026

Whether it is a poem, a photograph, a childhood memory, or simply a thought that stayed with you, we want to read it. Let us build this little corner of literature together.

We look forward to reading your work. 🌼

🎸 A proud moment for our community 🎸

We at the Bengali Cultural Association Oslo are thrilled to celebrate one of our own — Saugata Ghosh Druto — whose debut full-length album «Metanoia» (2026) is now out on all platforms.

Many of you know Druto from our cultural evenings, where his guitar and his voice have become part of the soul of BCA's gatherings. A singer-songwriter and producer from Bangladesh, now based in Norway, and a member of the Oslo band Sadhusanga, he carries a deeply Bengali sensibility into a sound entirely his own — moving between alternative rock, metal, and psychedelic textures, between languages, memory, and shifting states of identity.

«Metanoia» is a journey through absence, memory, distortion, and fragile clarity — ten tracks that drift between Bangla and English, never asking for resolution, only for what remains. From "A Quiet Exit" to "Bicchinno Mon (বিচ্ছিন্ন মন)", this is music defined less by genre and more by atmosphere: restless, introspective, quietly evolving.

We're celebrating the 165th anniversary of the birth of a true great: Rabindranath Tagore, who was born on this day 7 May, in 1861 in Calcutta, India.

The first non-European literature laureate, he was awarded the Nobel Prize "because of his profoundly sensitive, fresh and beautiful verse, by which, with consummate skill, he has made his poetic thought, expressed in his own English words, a part of the literature of the West."
