In Ukraine, debris is one of the most immediate barriers to reconstruction and the return of residents. Since the start of the full-scale invasion, has supported Ukraine in clearing 1 million tonnes of debris – an important milestone towards recovery.

As of the start of 2026, this work has:

✅ restored safe access to over 200 public locations
🏠 enabled reconstruction work at more than 1,600 heavily damaged sites
🤝 strengthened community engagement by hiring 400+ local construction and demolition workers across the country

“UNDP helps communities address urgent debris management needs while gradually strengthening their capacities for safer handling, reuse, and recycling of materials — all of which are essential for Ukraine’s reconstruction and long-term resilience,” said Oleksii Kuleba, Deputy Prime Minister for Restoration of Ukraine and Minister for Development of Communities and Territories of Ukraine.

🌊 This week we’re in Nice 🇫🇷 for the 3rd UN Ocean Conference 🇺🇳, where inspiring partnerships and meaningful discussions are advancing action for a sustainable ocean.

We had a wonderful walk-and-talk with our Goodwill Ambassadors, HRH Crown Prince Haakon 🇳🇴 and HRH Crown Princess Victoria 🇸🇪, focusing on next steps to strengthen ocean governance and how we can support coastal communities.

We also had great engagements onboard the ship Statsraad Lehmkuhl, where the Blue Justice Programme was front and center — showcasing how global collaboration supports local solutions 🌐

Reflecting on the impact of local leadership, HRH Crown Prince Haakon shared:

“When I visited Jamaica as UNDP Goodwill Ambassador, I met Captain Michael Sterling — a lifelong fisherman who joined the Blue Justice Initiative.

Thanks to over a decade of sustainable ocean management, the biomass in his local waters has increased by more than 500%.

Stories like his show what’s possible when we combine knowledge, resources, and the will to act.”

🔹 Great interest in UNDP’s 2025 Human Development Report, launched today in Oslo, Norway!🔹

Opening the joint & launch, Bård Vegar Solhjell, Director General of Norad, delivered a powerful message of hope:

“When the situation is at its worst, often humanity is at its best. We need to build a future around hope, not fear, to move forward together.”

Artificial intelligence (AI) is advancing at lightning speed. Yet as AI surges forward, human development is stalling. For the fourth year in a row, the 2025 Human Development Report highlights widening inequalities between rich and poor countries📉

At the launch, the report’s lead author and Director of the UNDP Human Development Report Office, Pedro Conceição, presented this year’s key findings.

Together with our moderator, Arvinn E. Gadgil, Director, and panel of experts — Liv Marte Nordhaug, CEO of the Digital Public Goods Alliance Secretariat, and , President of — they explored whether and how artificial intelligence can become human development’s greatest opportunity or greatest challenge.

The message was clear: 🌟 We must reclaim our choices and not allow technology to determine our future. Instead, we need to shape our own future where AI actively supports and advances human development.
