PRIO Acting Director Haakon Gjerløw tells The Washington Post that the U.S. sanctions against the International Criminal Court announced on the same day Navi Pillay was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize “underscores exactly why this award matters.”

“The Nobel Committee has sent a clear message that international law and the institutions that defend it remain essential pillars of a peaceful world. It is a brave decision by the Committee, and a worryingly bullying reaction.”

The president described the decision to award the Nobel Peace Prize to Navi Pillay as “disgraceful and embarrassing” and said he would “not forget.”
