Ghana has begun talks with Luxembourg on a possible visa-waiver arrangement that could ease travel for Ghanaians to three European countries: Luxembourg, Belgium, and the Netherlands. Ghana’s Foreign Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa discussed the proposal with his Luxembourg counterpart, Xavier Bettel, during the UN General Assembly in New York. According to Ghana’s Foreign Ministry, Ghana has already concluded visa-waiver agreements with the Maldives, Zambia, and Antigua and Barbuda. These are now in force and cover ordinary, service, and diplomatic passport holders. The Zambia agreement allows visits of up to 30 days without a visa. No agreement has yet been reached with Luxembourg or the wider Benelux bloc, which comprises Luxembourg, Belgium, and the Netherlands. Ordinary Ghanaian passport holders still need visas to visit these countries. The ministers also discussed cooperation in digital technology, agro-processing, and investment to support local industries and create jobs.
