BEKYMRING FOR YTRINGSFRIHETEN I TYSKLAND

I forbindelse med forbundskansler Friedrich Merz’ besøk i Norge 13. mars har BDS Norge tatt initiativ til et brev fra den norske solidaritetsbevegelsen gjennom Fellesutvalget for Palestina. Fellesutvalget for Palestina (FuP) representerer 39 medlemsorganisasjoner og flere hundre tusen medlemmer. I brevet uttrykkes sterk bekymring for utviklingen i ytringsfriheten i Tyskland.

FuP viser til en rekke eksempler på at enkeltpersoner og organisasjoner får begrenset sin ytringsfrihet når de kritiserer Israels okkupasjon av palestinsk territorium eller krigføringen i Gaza.

Ytringsfriheten er et grunnleggende prinsipp som også gjelder i krig og konflikt. Kritikk av staters politikk er beskyttet av artikkel 10 i Den europeiske menneskerettskonvensjonen. I en dom fra 2020 slo Den europeiske menneskerettsdomstolen fast at denne retten også gjelder i saker som omhandler Israel. Likevel mener FuP at ytringsrommet i Tyskland er blitt betydelig innsnevret under den pågående krigen, og at myndighetene i mange tilfeller sidestiller kritikk av israelsk politikk med antisemittisme.

Domstolen har også slått fast at oppfordringer til boikott kan være en legitim form for politisk ytring når de begrunnes i kritikk av en stats politikk. Når kritikk av Israels okkupasjon eller mulige menneskerettighetsbrudd møtes med forbud eller straffetrusler, settes etter FuPs syn det universelle prinsippet om ytringsfrihet under press.

Samtidig fortsetter krigen i Gaza, til tross for at Den internasjonale domstolen har åpnet sak om mulig folkemord og bedt Israel stanse angrepene mens saken behandles. Voldsnivået øker også på Vestbredden og i Øst-Jerusalem.

Over hele verden, også i Tyskland, protesterer et økende antall jøder mot Israels krigføring. Når kritikk av Israel tolkes som antisemittisme, bidrar det etter FuPs syn til å identifisere Israel med jødedommen som helhet og til en urimelig kollektiv ansvarliggjøring av jøder for Israels politikk.

Fellesutvalget for Palestina oppfordrer derfor Tysklands forbundskansler til å sikre at ytringsfriheten respekteres fullt ut. Organisasjonen ber om at alle skal kunne uttale seg fritt om situasjonen i Gaza og kritisere Israels politikk uten frykt for sanksjoner, at politivold mot demonstranter opphører, og at Tyskland stanser våpenleveranser til Israel som kan bidra til krigsforbrytelser eller mulig folkemord.

The Palestinian Campaign for the Academic and Cultural Boycott of Israel (PACBI), a founding member of the Palestinian-led Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) movement, calls to boycott the AgriΒusiness Forum 2026 over its ties with the genocidal Israeli government and Israeli entities complicit in Israel’s atrocity crimes against Palestinians. This is especially urgent in light of the criminal war of aggression by Israel and the US against the people of Iran.

The Forum, set to take place in Athens, March 18-19, includes among its Scientific Partners the Israel-based Israel–Greece Chamber of Commerce, which partners with and includes representatives from ministries of the fascist Israeli government.

The Forum’s program features multiple speakers representing complicit Israeli entities and the Israeli government itself. These include:

- Noam Katz, Israeli ambassador, an official representative of the Israeli government that is currently committing genocide against 2.3 million Palestinians in Gaza;

- Cobi Bitton, CEO of the above mentioned Israel-Greece Chamber of Commerce;

- Dan G. Blumberg, Vice President of Ben Gurion University, which hosts the Homeland Security Institute whose partnerships include Israel’s top weapons companies and the Israeli Ministry of Defense; and

- Oded Sagee, Chief scientist and CTO of Gaon Agro Industries Ltd, a subsidiary of B. Gaon Holdings, which has carried out numerous water infrastructure projects on occupied Palestinian land, exploiting Palestinian natural resources for the supply of water to illegal Israeli settlements, and has agricultural subsidiaries operating in the occupied Palestinian Jordan Valley.

Blumberg is also a member of the Scientific Committee of the Forum and Sagee is included as a Field Expert.

In addition to killing tens of thousands of Palestinians in Gaza, according to a UN report Israel’s ongoing genocide has destroyed or damaged 87% of Palestinian cropland. That figure rises to 94% in North Gaza. Israel has destroyed 80% of greenhouses, 87% of agricultural wells, and more than 4,400 agricultural sites, including barns, farms, warehouses, in Gaza. Palestinians in Gaza who have managed to survive Israel’s bombs face “acute food insecurity.”

An agricultural forum that intends to sincerely address such topics as “food security” in an era of “geopolitical tensions” cannot begin to do so while partnering with and platforming representatives of the same entities that are currently orchestrating a famine in Gaza that is literally starving Palestinians to death. Israel is denying entry of aid and continues to destroy Palestinian agriculture. It has been implementing colonial apartheid projects robbing Palestinians of their land and natural resources for decades.

We urge the Forum organizers to take immediate measures to ensure it is free of any ties with entities that are working in direct contrast to the aims of the Forum.

Continuing business-as-usual with a genocidal state like Israel is a direct contribution not only to its crimes against Palestinians but also to the might-makes-right order to which the US and Israel are leading humanity.

Should the Forum fail to cut its ties with genocidal Israel, we call on all speakers to withdraw, on sponsors to formally end their support, and on participants to boycott the event.

Yesterday morning, we woke up to rocket alerts. Israel began bombing Iran. As so often happens when the media attention shifts, Israel seized the moment to intensify its attacks against Palestinians. Here’s what happened while the world was looking the other way.

With the first bombings in Iran, settlers intensified their attacks on Palestinians in the West Bank. Armed with rifles, clubs, and pepper spray, settler terrorists attacked villages in Masafer Yatta, firing live ammunition at children who were picking akoub. Just a few hours ago, a series of attacks took place in Duma. Armed terrorists, fully backed by the state and the IDF, attacked Palestinians and activists, injuring some of them. Arrests? Yes, six people were detained: four Palestinians, including a child, and two activists.

In Gaza, even under the “ceasefire”, the IDF continues to carry out attacks in Gaza almost daily, including today in Jabalia and Beit Lahiya. And since yesterday, Israel stopped humanitarian aid from entering Gaza. The IDF added that “the existing stock is expected to suffice”. The Israeli government and the media present the attacks on Iran, among other things, as a moral mission to help Iranians resist a repressive and violent regime. Don’t tell them that Israel itself sustains a violent and repressive regime that isn’t thousands of kilometres away.

When the protests in Iran were at their peak, there was probably no country that watched them more closely than Israel. Our press covered them extensively, many Israelis expressed sympathy for the brave Iranian people, and politicians voiced their support for the protesters. Israelis, to the best of their knowledge, live in a democracy where everyone has the right to protest without being shot or arrested. However, it is a daily reality for millions of Palestinians in the West Bank, where freedom is denied under military law.

Everyone deserves freedom and safety. It is a moral imperative we uphold here, between the river and the sea, and it is just as relevant in Iran. No one deserves to live under a dictatorship, or under bombs, or under terror. Don’t look away, that’s exactly what they want.
