The WTO "Peace Clause" is a contemporary provision restricting members from challenging agricultural subsidies that violate normal WTO rules, provided they adhere to certain constraints.

To use the peace clause countries must follow strict conditions: they must prove their subsidies do not distort trade, do not adversely affect the food security of other members, and they must adhere to strict notification requirements.

We are currently in Yaoundé meeting with partners and attending the WTO 14th Ministerial Conference. The conference gathers ministers and civil society from across the world to discuss the challenges and opportunities facing the multilateral trade system.

The biggest issue on the agenda is the reform of WTO. Karibu’s partners are calling out the drivers of the reform agenda, saying it is driven by the needs of the few instead of the many.

We are happy to welcome our new senior advisor, Hilde Hunnålvatn, to our Karibu team.

Hildes comes from the previous position as senior advisor at the Norwegian Council for Africa, where she has been working in close collaboration with activists, academics and organizations from the African continent. She has also worked extensively with developing information platforms to make these voices heard in Norway, both in the public debate and on policy arenas.

Hilde joins Karibu at a crucial time for the foundation, where developing and centering the participatory grant making is key.
- I am very excited to work and learn from the core group and the partners. I look forward to how we can develop the participatory grantmaking model further. I see the work in Karibu as a chance to work on something that is more important than ever in the global setting: international solidarity!
