🪄 GET TO KNOW THE CONDUCTORS 🪄
Last but not least of the current conductors in the program is Tobias!

My name is Tobias Gjedrem Furholt, born and raised in Stavanger. I completed my bachelor’s degree in percussion at the Staatliche Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst Stuttgart, where I studied with Prof. Marta Klimasara and Prof. Klaus Dreher.

Following my bachelors, I moved to the Netherlands, where I had the privilege of spending a year as an academist with the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra.

I am currently completing my master’s degree in percussion back in Stuttgart. After the summer, I will move to Copenhagen to pursue the postgraduate program in conducting at the Royal Danish Academy of Music.

🪄GET TO KNOW THE CONDUCTORS 🪄
My name is Simon-Emiil Bergstrøm Waage, and I come from Austrheim on the west coast of Norway. Currently I am studying for a Bachelor’s degree in Conducting at the University of Stavanger (UiS), under Professor Bjarte Engeset.

This year my project was to stage the operetta «The Telephone» by G. C. Menotti together with my fantastic fellow students at the faculty, as part of my project this semester. In this project I am deeply explored different possible interpretations, as well as how to plan effective rehearsals for orchestra and soloists.

I am also in the process of preparing a newly established summer course for young wind band enthusiasts on Fedje, an island I also have strong connection with.

There is much to look forward to, especially after becoming part of Dirigentforum. It is a unique opportunity to work on so much great repertoire and develop as a conductor together with so many great teachers!

🪄 GET TO KNOW THE CONDUCTORS 🪄

My name is Tom Varl, and I come from Bled, a small town embraced by the Julian Alps in Slovenia. I am a choral conductor currently based between Denmark, Slovenia and Oslo, where I am completing my second master’s degree in Choral Conducting at the Norwegian Academy of Music. I previously studied choral conducting in Ljubljana, Barcelona, and Aarhus, experiences that have shaped my artistic perspective across different European choral traditions.

At the moment, I am assisting the DR Vokalensemble in Copenhagen, working closely within the rehearsal process. Alongside this, I also teach choral singing at OrkesterEfterskole in Denmark, where I work with young musicians. This has always been a central and most inspiring part of my artistic life.

Important upcoming projects include my Master’s exam with the Norwegian Soloists’ Choir in May, a collaboration with the Slovenian Philharmonic Choir at the Ljubljana Festival in July, and a summer tour to Croatia with the Vocal Group Gallina, where I serve as Artistic Director.

Being part of Dirigentforum Kor is an important platform in my current development. The opportunity to work with professional choirs under a guidance of different mentors is very valuable for a young conductor. I am very much looking forward to the upcoming projects.

🪄 GET TO KNOW THE CONDUCTORS 🪄
My name is Joanna Gołędowska. I come from southern Poland, where highland music reigns supreme, and I identify deeply with this beautiful region and its folklore. In 2018, I completed my master’s degree in Choral Conducting and Music Education at the Academy of Music in Kraków (AMKP). A year later, I moved to Stavanger and have lived there ever since, with my husband and our 1,5-year-old daughter, who is currently my most absorbing and rewarding occupation. 😊

Professionally, I work with Ledaal Vokalensemble, teach piano at Sola Kulturskole, and am active as a freelance conductor and teacher. This year, I began the ConductIT studies (Wind & Brass Band) at the University of Stavanger (UiS).

Being a part of the Dirigentforum Kor program is truly special to me, and it’s the most professionally formative experience of my life. I am excited for all the upcoming masterclasses, each one a chance to immerse myself in a world I have long dreamed of, while stretching me beyond my comfort zone. Practice opportunities with professional Scandinavian choirs, being guided by renowned mentors and instructors, working with a demanding repertoire, and observing talented fellow conductors - from all of this, I learn immensely and I am deeply grateful for this challenging chapter in my life.

🪄 GET TO KNOW THE CONDUCTORS 🪄
My name is Aurélien Rauss. I was born in Paris, France, where I started with violin at the age of 4 before discovering somwhat by chance choir conducting and deciding to pursue this path at 17. During my last year of bachelor in France, I fell in love with Norway during an Erasmus semester, so after completing a bachelor in both choir and orchestra conducting as well as a bachelor in musicology, I decided to move to Norway for a second bachelor degree at NMH.

I am now in my first year of master of choir conducting at the Norwegian Academy of Music in Oslo, having projects with international conductors such as Daniel Reuss, Grete Pedersen, Yuval Weinberg, Marc Korovitch and Justin Doyle. Since september 2025, I also have the pleasure of conducting Vestoppland Kammerkor in Gjøvik.

Conducting Bach’s Johannes Passion as my first project of master was like an electroshock that launched my master like no other project could have, and I’m really proud of what we achieved. The start of 2026 is fully packed with wonderful projects and music, and Dirigenforum being really the cherry on top of everything. I couldn’t be more enthusiastic at the thought of meeting all these inspiring mentors and ensembles.
