Nomination of Bibi Ayesha (Commander Kaftar) for the Nobel Peace Prize 2026
To the Norwegian Nobel Committee, Nobel Prize!
On behalf of the Afghan Diaspora Network in Norway, we have the honour to nominate Bibi Ayesha, known as Commander Kaftar, for the Nobel Peace Prize 2026.
Bibi Ayesha stands as a unique figure in Afghan history — the only known female military commander during decades of conflict, who used her leadership not to promote violence but to protect her community, defend women’s dignity, and call for peace and justice. In a deeply patriarchal and war-torn society, she emerged as a symbol of courage, integrity, and reconciliation.
Throughout her life, Commander Kaftar opposed both extremism and foreign domination, emphasizing that peace in Afghanistan must come through inclusion, dialogue, and respect for women’s rights. Despite threats from various armed groups, she refused to abandon her principles and instead worked to mediate local disputes and prevent bloodshed. Her leadership inspired countless Afghan women to believe in their own power to contribute to peacebuilding and community resilience.
Bibi Ayesha’s story is not only a story of personal bravery — it represents the unyielding strength of Afghan women who continue to fight for freedom, education, and equality under the harshest conditions. Recognizing her with the Nobel Peace Prize would send a powerful message to the world: that peace is sustained by those who stand for justice, compassion, and human dignity, even when the cost is high.
Through this nomination, the Afghan Diaspora Network in Norway wishes to honour Commander Kaftar’s legacy and to draw global attention to the continuing struggle of Afghan women for peace and human rights. We believe that her life’s work embodies the true spirit of Alfred Nobel’s vision — that peace is not merely the absence of war, but the presence of justice and humanity.
Respectfully submitted,
