We were lucky enough to hear an incredible performance of Marcus Paus’ work ’THE MUNCH ROOM’ written for violinist, Ingerine Dahl, on Tuesday! This is the first time the piece has been performed in its new arrangement for solo violin and strings (the original version is for solo violin and electronics) so it was an incredibly special evening.
Over the past twenty-five years, Marcus Paus has distinguished himself as one of Norway’s leading composers with a fondness for writing music inspired by art. Ingerine Dahl is well known for her innovative art education projects. Together with a violin made by Jean Baptiste Vuillaume in Paris in 1850, they explored the paintings from the Munch Room at the National Museum offering a contemporary take on Edvard Munch’s stories.
The movements are based on the following paintings (swipe to see a sneak peek of the programme):
I. The ScreamII. MoonlightIII. The KissIV. MadonnaV. Death in the SickroomVI. Dance of LifeVII. Self-Portrait
Thank you to our wonderful Dextra Camerata, without whom this would not have been possible! Sara Övinge, Theba Magos, Maria Strømsted (violin)
