Our parents raised us the way they knew — often the only way they knew, brought with them from a different country, a different decade, a different set of pressures. It worked for many of us. For others, it left gaps we're still discovering as we raise our own children here.
Norway is not the place our parents were raised in. Our children are not us. The question this generation faces is not whether to hold on to the old way or let it go, but something harder: what do we actually want to pass on, on purpose, rather than by habit?
This session was an invitation to explore that question openly — not a lecture on what went wrong, but a space to think freshly about parenting as something we can choose, shape and improve, generation by generation. In English and Bangla, with time for real questions from parents and from those not yet parents. Preceded by a short presentation on our new masjid.
Speaker:
Sheikh Mahmudul Hasan Al-Azhari is Khateeb and Principal of Essex Jamme Masjid in the UK and a director of TV One UK. He draws on classical Islamic training and his own work in education to speak on faith, family and identity across generations.
