MZENGA LIVES FOUNDATION CONDEMNS CAMPAIGN VIOLENCE AND CALLS FOR PEACEFUL ELECTIONS
Lusaka, July 3, 2026
Mzenga Lives Foundation is deeply concerned by reports of campaign related violence in different parts of the country, including incidents that have resulted in the loss of life.
As an organisation committed to mindset change, civic responsibility and national development, we strongly condemn all forms of political violence, intimidation and provocation during this campaign period.
No election should cost a life. No political ambition should be placed above the peace, dignity and security of the Zambian people.
Campaigns must be a contest of ideas, policies and leadership, not a platform for fear, anger or violence. Citizens deserve to hear clear messages on development, healthcare, education, agriculture, jobs, the economy and national unity. They must be allowed to choose freely, without intimidation or threats.
We call on all political parties, candidates, campaign teams and supporters to exercise restraint and responsibility. Leaders must guide their supporters towards peace, because words and actions during campaigns have real consequences in people’s lives and communities.
We also urge the Zambia Police Service to act professionally, fairly and firmly in dealing with all acts of political violence, regardless of political affiliation. The law must protect every citizen equally.
The Electoral Commission of Zambia must also continue to uphold and enforce the Electoral Code of Conduct so that all political players understand that violence, hate speech and intimidation have no place in a democratic election.
Mzenga Lives Foundation further appeals to civil society, traditional leaders, churches, the media, young people and ordinary citizens to reject violence and promote peaceful participation in the electoral process.
Zambia is bigger than any political party. Our democracy must be protected. Our people must be protected. Our peace must be protected.
Let this campaign season be remembered for ideas, maturity and responsible leadership, not for violence and loss of life.
