🇬🇪 On June 1, the Georgian Association in Norway (Kreba) and Norsk PEN organized an event to mark Georgia’s Independence Day, in collaboration with Norwegian Helsinki Committee and Amnesty International Norway-

The evening opened with a musical performance by Georgian pianist Tatia Chikovani, followed by a panel discussion. Irma Dimitradze from Batumelebi, Gunnar Ekeløve-Slydal from the Norwegian Helsinki Committee, and Ane Tusvik Bonde from Amnesty International Norway discussed the state of media freedom and human rights in Georgia since the adoption of the Foreign Agents Law, as well as the ongoing protests in Tbilisi, which have continued for more than 500 days.

PEN Norway’s Secretary General, Jørgen Watne Frydnes, moderated a conversation with the evening’s special guest, President სალომე ზურაბიშვილი / Salome Zourabichvili.

The event concluded with a meeting between President Zourabichvili and members of the Georgian diaspora in Norway.

We thank all the guests and participants for celebrating Georgia´s Independence Day with us! 🇬🇪

Lenke i kommentarfeltet.

Exactly a year ago, the Georgian government announced the country would not seek the EU integration until 2028. Today, Georgians in Norway and friends of Georgia gathered outside the embassy in Oslo to show that the fight hasn’t stopped. For a year, people back home have continued to protest despite immense physical, mental, and financial pressure.

We also raised our voices against the newly adopted law that takes away the voting rights of Georgians living abroad in future parliamentary elections.

Standing in solidarity with every political prisoner in Georgia and with all the brave people who keep taking to the streets to protect the country’s democratic, European future. 🇬🇪
