Midlands Children Hope Project was started up after Anita Svendheim and Thomas Nordberg's volunteer trip to Zimbabwe in 2011. Here, they visited Midlands Children Hope Centre were locals work unpaid to protect and provide shelter for the street children in Gweru. Every day was a struggle to cover the children's basic needs, especially in a community where the street children are portrayed as thiev
es and criminals in the making. As a result, the charity Midlands Children Hope Project was founded in Norway. Today, Midlands Children Hope Project consist of a board with three members, after Lene Tollefsen RodegĂ„rd joined the organization. Just like Anita and Thomas, Lene travelled to Zimbabwe to volunteer a year later, and fell in love with the children. She knew she had to do something more to help them when returning back to Norway. Today, the organization has sponsors from eight different countries on three different continents that all gives a donation of their own choice every month. 100% of these donations go towards the project in Zimbabwe. The administrative expenses are covered by the board members themselves or other people involved. In addition to this, the organization put up a wide range of fundraising events every year together with dedicated and passionate people from all around the world. The childrenâs education is today, as in 2012, our main priority. The growth of the organization has, however, also given us the opportunity to launch more projects to empower the children in Gweru.
