Kazakhstan Breakfast Meeting – 27 of January 2026

On 27 January 2026, business leaders, diplomats, investment institutions, and Norwegian companies gathered at the Confederation of Norwegian Enterprise (NHO) in Oslo for the Kazakhstan Breakfast Meeting, arranged in collaboration with the Embassy of the Republic of Kazakhstan to the Kingdom of Norway.

The event opened with remarks highlighting the importance of strengthening bilateral economic relations:

Katarina Sætersdal, Senior Advisor, International Department, NHO
Ronny Solberg, Chair of the Board, EAST CCI of Norway
H.E. Adil Tursunov, Ambassador of Kazakhstan to Norway
H.E. Helene Sand Andresen, Ambassador Designate of Norway to Kazakhstan
Several speakers underlined Kazakhstan’s growing role as a regional economic hub in Central Asia and a gateway between Europe and Asia.

Murat Karimsakov, Chairman of the Board of the Chamber of International Commerce of Kazakhstan, presented concrete opportunities for Norwegian companies — particularly in sectors where Norway has strong expertise, including energy, logistics, and sustainability.

From the government side, Erzhan Nesibkulov, Director of the Department of International Economic Cooperation, Ministry of National Economy of the Republic of Kazakhstan, emphasized Kazakhstan’s strategy to deepen international economic cooperation and attract long-term foreign partners.

Kazakh Invest, presented by Alida Tuyebekova, Managing Director, Investments Facilitation Department, showcased how the national investment promotion agency supports foreign companies throughout the establishment process.

The Astana International Financial Centre (AIFC), introduced by Temir Sembinov, highlighted its role in providing an international legal and financial framework designed to reduce market entry risks.

The National Investment Holding “Baiterek”, presented by Saken Olzhabayev, Director of the Department of International Cooperation, and the National Mining Company “Tau-Ken Samruk”, presented by Assel Kydyrbekova, Head of Investment and Marketing Department, introduced their profiles and partnership opportunities for Norwegian businesses – relevant for infrastructure, industry, and resource-related projects.

Together, these institutions demonstrated that entering Kazakhstan is not just about opportunity – it is also about structured support and predictable frameworks.

A Norwegian Company Perspective

A particularly valuable part of the program was hearing from Gexcon, our member company, represented by Trygve Birkeli, who shared practical experience from entering the Kazakhstan market. In his presentation, Birkeli underlined that participating in the business delegation to Kazakhstan led by EAST CCI of Norway last year served as a catalyst for market entry.

We thank NHO for facilitating this meeting at their premises.

🚀 Exploring New Markets & Strengthening Partnerships in Aquaculture Sector in Romania! 🌊

In February 2025, we wrapped up an insightful program as part of the Norwegian Aquaculture Cluster, diving deep into the Romanian aquaculture sector and its market potential. With the Black Sea region offering new opportunities, we gained valuable insights into industry trends, innovative technologies, and sustainable practices.

📊 Romanian Aquaculture Sector – Key Facts:
🐟 Growing Industry – Romania has over 900 aquaculture farms, covering freshwater and marine production. The sector plays a crucial role in local food security and economic development.
🌊 Rich Natural Resources – With access to the Danube River, Black Sea, and numerous lakes, Romania offers excellent conditions for aquaculture expansion.
🔬 Need for Modernization – While the country has a long history in aquaculture, there is significant potential for technological advancements.
📈 Key Species – The sector primarily produces carp, trout, catfish, pike, and sturgeon, with an increasing interest in diversifying species and improving breeding techniques.
🌍 EU & International Market Potential – Romania's membership in the EU provides access to funding and new markets, but there is a need for improved logistics, value-added products, and stronger industry collaboration.

📍 Highlights from our visit:
✅ Engaging farm visits at Piscicola Prahova, Pastrăvăria Valea Stanii Zaganu & Doripesco
✅ Roundtable discussions on the role of Norwegian technologies in improving efficiency and sustainability
✅ Networking with key industry leaders & members of the Romanian Association of Fisheries Enterprises

🌍 As the next Black Sea Norwegian Aquaculture Cluster program opens its doors in the near future, we look forward to expanding our knowledge and building strong partnerships in the Black Sea region.
