Our third Launch Day Grant Recipient was the incredible children's literacy charity United Way South Australia Inc. ($3,000)

And we presented Emma Brooke – Executive Chairperson/CEO with the cheque. Pictured below our Founder Joe, JB Charity Finance Director Joanna and JB Charity Secretary Linda.

About United Way …
United Way South Australia, established in 1973, is focused on improving the literacy of all South Australia children from birth. Starting school strong with the first learning foundations starting within the home so that children are ready to learn, read and succeed when starting school.
In areas of South Australia, 1 in 3 children start school without the basic literacy, communication and social skills they need to be ready read, learn and succeed at school and in life.

Right now, United Way South Australia has one priority: to improve pre-schooler’s literacy and school readiness, particularly in communities with higher levels of disadvantage, and support parents in their role as their child’s first educator.

In 2014 United Way Australia became the sole distributors of Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library and in 2018 Possum’s Playgroup was formed. They are located within Elizabeth City Centre upstairs in the Raleigh Chambers.

Another amazing Grant Recipient on our Launch Day was Fred’s Van ($5,000)

About Fred’s Van …
The Vinnies Fred's Van meal service provides all kinds of nourishment - not just food!

The service operates at eight sites across Adelaide, including Elizabeth, and Salisbury.

Their volunteers help break through the barriers of loneliness and isolation that many people experiencing poverty and/or homelessness feel. They can provide a meal, blankets, toiletries, snacks, hot beverages and most importantly, companionship. As a result, Vinnies has helped foster genuine communities of friends from all walks of life.

Anyone is welcome at any of our ten Fred’s Van sites. They especially encourage people in our community who are sleeping rough or who are in insecure accommodation to access the service. People are under no obligation to pay for the meals or goods provided, but they do encourage people to stay and chat as a Fred’s Van community.

What a worthy recipient of funds from our program.

At yesterday's Launch Event, JB Charity Group was proud to present grants to help support 3 incredible community organisations.

Grant Recipient #1 – The Playford Women's Shed

A cheque for $3,000 was presented to Founder Raelene Wlochowicz.

Their vision
Imagine a safe place for women to meet. women of all ages, of different nationalities with different cultural beliefs.

* Groups of women with varied interests and skills – knitters, potters, gardeners, readers, candle-makers, dressmakers,
painters, quilters (just to name a few!).
* Women who work, don’t work, have retired,
* Have health or mental health issues.
* Women who need help with their phone or laptop, or just need somewhere to go to talk to someone over a cuppa or a meal, to get advice or support and enjoy the safe environment and company of other women.

This is what they want their Shed to be – a haven for ALL women!

Launch Today's Public Launch of JB Charity Group Ltd.

+ almost 30 representatives of the amazing community organisations from across the northern suburbs.

Today, we supported 3 incredible local organisations to continue their amazing work with 3 grants totalling $11,000

The Playford Women's Shed $3,000

Fred's Van - St Vincent De Paul Society $5,000

JB Charity Group Ltd. … Who we are.

JB Charity Group Ltd. offers 'A Hand of Hope' to vulnerable people across Northern Adelaide, and predominantly those within the City of Salisbury and City of Playford local government areas.

Founded by Julian (Joe) Balawejder to provide a Hand of Hope to those who most need it.

One of the key opportunities provided by the JB Charity Group Ltd is a small grant program to

• individuals experiencing, or at risk of, homelessness
• children 6 – 18 year olds
• young people aged 18 - 24
• organisations who support individuals in the above
• people living in Northern Adelaide (predominantly Salisbury/Playford Councils)

A simple referral letter (non-family member) from a professional organisation (e.g. school, service provider, medical practitioner, etc.) is all it takes to lodge an application for support of up to $500.

This may assist an individual in any number of ways, and we are specifically keen to support those who have no access to any other funding programs.

To date we have supported a number of organisations and individuals across northern Adelaide, including:

* Backpacks 4 SA Kids INC.,
* The Playford Women's Shed
* Fred’s Van Salisbury,
* Provision of toiletries packs and op shop gift cards to assist local homeless people in and around the Salisbury City Centre
* and a young person from Youth Options to help them complete their studies.
