After 78 days on the road Yaky McYak Face our trusted Toyota Yaris and it’s driver has made it back to the far north of Norway and his home Hammerfest officially on October 1st at 15:44 local time. It has been quite the adventure for all of us and we are so thankful to all of you who supported us, our causes and will nag us with a million questions about our trip in the coming days and weeks! We can’t wait to share more stories and photos with you all!

It’s official we did it, we completed the Mongol Rally 2019 coming in first place and sporting these fabulous gold medals with a trophy that we definitely didn’t buy at a market and that we definitely didn’t print a first place sticker on it even though we were probably last...Ok we drove 23,000 km from Norway to Mongolia, we raised a bunch of money for some great charities (thanks to our sponsors and donors!), we visited some amazing countries with amazing people, we camped in some beautiful nature, we made life long rally friends, and we got to live out of a Toyota Yaris for 71 days!

Thank you to all our friends, family, and other sponsors who kept our spirits high, followed along on our journey and supported our causes! We couldn’t have done it without you all! I (Taylor) was dropped off in Novosibirsk, Siberia this morning at around 4am and will explore Russia some more while Sjur will continue on with our car another 8000 km back to Hammerfest, Norway. We will be sure to finish our blog and continue to update our Instagram and Facebook with all the great photos and videos we took along the way so don’t forget to check back now and then!

@ Mongol rally 2019

These last few days have been an epic adventure crossing most of the Mongolian steppes. We were lucky enough to make friends with who were also crossing Mongolia west and we had some great off road driving, small village visits and to top it all off we got invited into the yurt of a local family who happened to be milking their camels when we arrived. We made across the country with only a few minor scrapes and re-entered Russia in style as two diplomats met at the border and had live music and dance as we drove into Russia! We’re so grateful to the people of Mongolia, the beautiful and unique nature and our new Austrian friends who helped us finish off the rally in style and good company!

Back in the Pamir we had a “small accident” with the drone. A whole mountain jumped up into the way of the drone and with three propellers down and only two spares we had to wait until our friends at .kz in Almaty, Kazakhstan hooked us up with some spare propellers. Today on our way through the vast steppes of Kazakhstan we took a detour to see a 3000 year old burial pyramid and got to test out our piloting skills once again!

We’re here in Balkhash, Kazakhstan and just went live on NRK-P1 Finnmarksendingen radio to give a quick update on our trip. We passed through the fabulous Pamir Mountains and took this great shot in honor of one of our charities . We’ve been driving now for three days in the Pamir mountains of Tajikistan the roads are mostly non-existent but occasionally less bumpy. We’ve had some epic camping spots, even more epic scenery , followed along the Afghan border waving to locals across the Panj river and helping out two German bikers who needed to get their broken bikes to the nearest town. Last night we made it to Khorog a larger city on the border and the entrance to the central stretch of the Pamir highway. We camped outside of Garm-Chasma and bathed in their hot springs this morning before heading back into the mountains towards Murghab!
