Yme collaborates with people to ensure clean water and expertise. Access to clean water is not only about hygiene, but also about human dignity.

We do this through projects; from vocational training centers in Somalia and Moçambique - to the construction of wells.

Yme Foundation is a norwegian humanitarian organisation specialised within education & knowledge, water & sanitation and peace & reconciliation. Yme was founded on the belief that idealistic specialists and volunteers can ease the life for the worlds poorest communitieis, through reasonable and responsible use of knowledge and technology. Almost half the worlds population are in need of access to clean water and basic sanitation. Improved condition has a big potentiasl when it comes to saving lives. We believe that access to clean water and education is crucial for peoples ability to participate in the construction of democracy and society. Yme is the implementing partner on a 15 mio € educational project in Somalia (TVET+), where we build Educational Centres with integrated business hubs, provide clean water and electricity using renewable energy sources.

A special day for the project.

Yesterday, we were honoured to have H.E. Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, visit Prof. Adow TVET College in Galkayo, together with the President of Galmudug State and federal and state ministers. He toured the college workshop by workshop and expressed his appreciation for the support of the German government and KfW in backing vocational training for Somali youth.

The college opens in September. Ten technical and vocational programmes, workshops fully equipped, teachers in place.

Thank you to everyone in Galkayo who built this, my colleagues in the field, GSA, NIRAS, and to our financier BMZ through KfW.

This is what a school looks like a few weeks before it opens.

Empty benches. Machines still in plastic. Not a fingerprint anywhere.

Prof. Adow TVET College in Galkayo opens soon. The video takes you through the carpentry workshop, the metal and machining hall, the welding bays, the electrical labs and the classrooms. All of it built and equipped from nothing.

By October none of it will look like this. There will be sawdust on the floor, tools out of place and a great deal more noise.

Thank you to everyone who has carried this for years, and to everyone who has supported us along the way. The quiet version is lovely. We are looking forward to the noisy one.

After a fantastic evening celebrating Norway’s progress to the next stage of the World Cup and submitting our 2025 accounts, it is wonderful to wake up to fresh photos from Prof Adow.

We are delighted to share these latest images of the mechanical workshop, where most of the equipment has now been installed. This has been a long journey, and it is incredibly rewarding to see all the time, effort, and dedication from everyone involved coming together.

As the workshops at Prof Adow near completion, we look forward to training and educating the next generation of Somali youth, giving them the skills and opportunities they deserve, while showcasing to the world the incredible talent that Somalia has to offer.

We could not be prouder to work alongside such dedicated partners on the ground. Together, we are building opportunities and investing in the future.

One week on — and we are still taking it in. 🌍
Last week we shared that our new TVET college in Somalia had received over 600 applications in its first 10 days. We thought that was the headline. Over the weekend, applications passed 1,500.

To put that in perspective: the University of Oxford — one of the most sought-after universities on earth — receives around 23,000 undergraduate applications a year for roughly 3,300 places. That is an entire ancient institution, drawing from the whole world.

Our college is a brand-new vocational school in Galkayo, in one of the most challenging operating environments anywhere. And in a matter of weeks, young people, families, and the wider community have come forward in numbers that would make any institution proud.

This is not about competing with Oxford. It is about what those numbers tell us: the hunger for education, for skills, for a future, is universal. Give people a real opportunity and they will run towards it — wherever they are.

To our colleagues and the whole team on the ground who made this possible: thank you. You have built something people believe in.

over 600 applicants. 10 days. One new TVET college in Somalia.

When we opened applications at our Prof Adow TVET+ Hub in Galkayo, we hoped the community would respond. We did not quite expect this.

Students, local businesses, NGOs, and the Somali diaspora have come together behind this school in a way that tells us something important: the demand for quality vocational training in this region is real, it is urgent, and it has been waiting.

We saw the photos from the ground in our morning meeting today. Mesmerising is the word that comes to mind.

Major Milestone for Our TVET Centre in Somalia!

We are excited to share a significant step forward in strengthening the sustainability and energy security of our TVET Centre. The installation of 360 solar panels—now fully in place and covering 720 m² of rooftop space—has been successfully completed. A big thank-you to De Lorenzo for their excellent customer care and highly professional service throughout the process.

Even at this early stage, the results are already impressive: the system has reached a maximum power output of 250 kW, cutting energy costs and ensuring reliable, clean power for our students and staff. This achievement would not have been possible without the generous support of our donor KfW on behalf of BMZ, and the strong collaboration with our implementation consultant NIRAS– NIRAS International Consulting. We are deeply grateful for their commitment to sustainable development and high-quality TVET education in Somalia.

This investment in solar energy strengthens the long-term resilience of the TVET Centre and helps pave the way for greener, more efficient operations across the region.

As always, I remain grateful for the incredible GSA team working diligently and tirelessly in the field – making it all possible.

Teamwork is essential to success, and we are proud to be part of the KfW TVET project, funded by BMZ through KfW and implemented by Yme/GSA, with strong support from Ethiopia’s Ministry of Labor and Skills and implementation consultant NIRAS Germany.

We are especially grateful for the leadership of Her Excellency Muferihat Kamil, Minister of Labor and Skills of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, whose contribution has meaningfully strengthened the link between our work and national TVET priorities.

As part of this collaboration, a second 4-week hands-on teacher training program has been launched for 16 TVET teachers from Somalia, particularly from Prof. Adow College in Galkayo. The program is implemented in Ethiopia at the Federal TVT Teachers Training Institute (FTTI) and builds on the results of the first training phase last year, addressing critical skill gaps.

The training focuses 75% on advanced technical competencies across nine key trades and 25% on essential pedagogical skills, such as instructional planning, teaching methods, and assessment. We are thankful to NIRAS, Her Excellency, and the FTTI for their continued support and shared commitment to strengthening TVET across borders.
