Call for International Academic Solidarity
From Rojava University and Kobanî University
To the international academic community,
We, the academic communities of Rojava University and Kobanî University, appeal to universities, higher education institutions, academic associations, researchers, educators, and students around the world for urgent solidarity.
Our universities are now passing through a process of integration into the Syrian Ministry of Higher Education. We are in favor of the recognition of the right of our students to receive higher education in Syria. However, the ongoing process of integration is conducted in a unilateral manner, neglecting our universities’ autonomy and our academics’ participation in decision-making about our universities’ future.
During this process, numerous faculties and departments face the threat of elimination, and the use of Kurdish as a language of instruction is being discontinued. Our universities risk losing their names, identities, and institutional autonomy. Considering these developments, we do not accept a forced and unilateral integration process threatening our academic institutions and our academic communities’ achievements.
We appeal for a negotiated process of integration that would guarantee protection of academic freedom, linguistic diversity and the rights of students and academics, as well as the role of our academic communities in decision-making concerning their future.
We urge international academic colleagues and institutions to take concrete action:
• Issue public statements of solidarity with our universities.
• Call on the Syrian Ministry of Higher Education to engage in meaningful dialogue with our academic communities.
• Write emails expressing your concern about the process of integration.
• Engage in academic cooperation with our universities and invite our representatives to participate in international academic forums.

Em, civakên akademîk ên Zanîngeha Rojava û Zanîngeha Kobaniyê, bang li zanîngeh, saziyên xwendina bilind, komeleyên akademîk, lêkoler, perwerdekar û xwendekarên li çar aliyên cîhanê dikin da ku di vê rewşa lezgîn de pişta me bigirin.
Zanîngehên me niha ketine nav pêvajoyeke întegrasyona bi Wezareta Xwendina Bilind a Sûriyê re. Em dixwazin mafê xwendekaran h**e ku li Sûriyê xwendina xwe ya bilind bidomînin. Lê belê, pêvajoya niha ya întegrasyonê bi awayekî yekalî tê meşandin; xweseriya zanîngehên me û beşdariya akademîsyenên me di biryarên di biwara paşeroja zanîngehên me de tê paşguhkirin.
Di vê pêvajoyê de, li ser gelek fakulte û beşan metirsiya nemanê heye û bikaranîna Kurdî weke zimanê perwerdehiyê jî di bin tehlûkeyê de ye. Metirsî heye ku zanîngehên me nav, nasname û xweseriya xwe ya sazûmanî ji dest bidin. Em pêvajoyeke întegrasyona yekalî û bi zorê qebûl nakin; ev yek saziyên me yên akademîk û destketiyên akademîk ên zanîngehên me dixe tehlûkeyê.
Em dixwazin pêvajoya întegrasyonê li ser bingehê diyalog û danûstandinê bê meşandin; pêvajoyeke ku azadiya akademîk, pirrzimanîbûnê, mafên xwendekar û akademîsyenan biparêze, û rola zanîngehên me di biryarên li ser paşeroja xwe de misoger bike.
Em ji saziyên akademîk û hevpîşeyên xwe dixwazin ku gavên darîçav bavêjin:
• Daxuyaniyên giştî yên piştgiriya bi zanîngehên me re biweşînin.
• Bang li Wezareta Xwendina Bilind a Sûriyê bikin da ku bi zanîngehên me re diyalog û danûstandineke watedar bike.
• Emailan bişînin û fikarên xwe di biwara pêvajoya întegrasyonê de diyar bikin.
• Bi zanîngehên me re hevkariya akademîk bi pêş bixin û nûnerên me vexwînin ji bo ku beşdarî forumên akademîk ên navneteweyî bibin.

إلى المجتمع الأكاديمي الدولي،
إننا، في المجتمعين الأكاديميين لجامعة روجآفا وجامعة كوباني، نتوجه بالنداء إلى الجامعات، ومؤسسات التعليم العالي، والجمعيات الأكاديمية، والباحثين، والتربويين، والطلاب في شتى أنحاء العالم، لتقديم الدعم لنا ومساندتنا في هذه الظروف الحرجة.
تخوض جامعاتنا حالياً عملية اندماج مع وزارة التعليم العالي السورية. وإذ نؤكد على حق طلبتنا الأصيل في مواصلة تعليمهم العالي داخل سوريا، إلا أن عملية الإندماج الحالية تُدار بشكل أحادي الجانب؛ حيث يُتغاضى عن استقلالية جامعاتنا ومشاركة أكاديميينا في صنع القرار المتعلق بمستقبل مؤسساتنا.
وفي هذا السياق، تواجه العديد من الكليات والأقسام خطر الإغلاق، كما أن استخدام اللغة الكردية لغةً للتعليم يواجه خطراً حقيقياً. وهناك تخوف جدي من فقدان جامعاتنا لأسمائها، وهوياتها، واستقلاليتها المؤسسية. إننا نرفض قطعاً أي عملية اندماج أحادية الجانب وقسرية؛ لما تشكله من تهديد مباشر لمؤسساتنا ومكتسباتنا الأكاديمية.
نحن نطالب بأن تتم عملية الاندماج على أساس الحوار والتفاوض، بحيث تُصان الحريات الأكاديمية، والتعددية اللغوية، وحقوق الطلبة والأكاديميين، وتُضمن دور جامعاتنا الفاعل في تقرير مصيرها ومستقبلها.
وعليه، فإننا ندعو المؤسسات الأكاديمية والزملاء الأعزاء إلى اتخاذ خطوات عملية وجادة، تشمل ما يلي:
إصدار بيانات عامة تعلن التضامن مع جامعاتنا. -
توجيه النداءات إلى وزارة التعليم العالي السورية لإجراء حوار جاد وذو معنى مع جامعاتنا. -
إرسال رسائل بريد إلكتروني للتعبير عن القلق إزاء مسار عملية الإندماج. -
تطوير التعاون الأكاديمي مع جامعاتنا ودعوة ممثلينا للمشاركة في المنتديات الأكاديمية الدولية. -
