OPENHAND, KENYA was registered in 2003 as a Community Based organization under the Ministry of Culture and Social Services with the aim of alleviating homelessness to the vulnerable children. VISION: The vision for Openhand Children`s Home is to work towards a society where vulnerable children have a right to survival in all areas of their lives, including the physical, emotional, psycho-social, c

ognitive, social and cultural development. MISSION: To take into our care the orphaned and abandoned children from day one to three years old without distinction of s*x or race and thereby benefit them with the advancement of basic necessities of life, including love, Christian ethics and values, food, clothing, primary health care and formal education to help the children achieve holistic human development so as to be responsible members of the society. CHRISTMAS GIFT for Openhand Children's Home, Kenya.

Christmas is approaching, and this week I find myself in Kenya to follow up on OpenHand Children's Home and our newest initiative, Umoja Rise Kenya, a social entrepreneurship project focusing on job opportunities and life skills established together with vulnerable young adults over 18 years from the orphanage, as an alternative to life on the streets after my last visit in March.

The need and poverty have significantly increased due to the coronavirus crisis and the war in Ukraine, affecting the poorest and most marginalized in Kenya the hardest. Grocery prices have skyrocketed over the past year, and many are facing significant challenges in making ends meet. This has resulted in a mental health crisis, growing helplessness, and unfortunately, we have witnessed an increase in suicides, especially among men.

Openhand Childrens Home, Kenya has welcomed even more vulnerable children from a Rescue Center in Nairobi in recent months. This week, I am spending time with these children, youth, and the staff at OpenHand Children's Home.

December is an especially financially challenging month, particularly with regard to food and living expenses, as the older children are also home due to school closures. To ensure a dignified Christmas celebration, I would like to invite you to contribute to a Christmas fundraiser through a financial donation, primarily for food expenses, medications, and other necessary operational costs of the home.
