Female Minority Voices

Female Minority Voices An organization dedicated to elevating the voices of female ethnic minorities — from all over the world.

We host a book club, Poetic Sauna, Coffee & Read, cultural events and conversations — often in collaboration to create space, community and change. Female Minority Voices (FMV) is an NGO that was established in 2021 in Bergen, Norway. The organization was created to raise and amplify female minority voices from around the world, and to put female minorities on the agenda. To do this we have, among

other things, an international book club that centers female minorities, with a large diversity of members. The book club meetings are usually set on the last Monday of the month at Bergen Assembly. In addition to the book club, we do other social activities such as dinners, film screenings, theater, workshops, conversations with authors, etc. We also collaborate with other wonderful people and organizations; and among them is a collaboration with the independent cinema Cinemateket in Bergen, where we show FMV-relevant films. Our activities center and are a safe space for minority women specifically, but are open to everyone regardless of ethnicity, s*x, background, age, s*xuality, faith, identity, etc. (We love uplifting and promoting relevant organizations and people on our platforms, so do watch out for this as well here, in our group, and our socials.) PS: If you have any relevant ideas, suggestions or recommendations, send a PM!

Welcome to another FMV Coffee & Read! ☕📚

June is Pride Month, and FMV’s book of the month is Butter Honey Pig Bread by Francesca Ekwuyasi – a novel exploring love, identity, women loving women, and belonging.

You’re welcome whether you’re reading this book, something else, or simply want to sit with others who love books and calm shared spaces.

FMV Coffee & Read is about slowing down, sharing space, and enjoying literature without expectations or pressure.

📖 Everyone is welcome – just bring your book and join us.

🔥 POETIC SAUNA - JUNE EDITION 🔥
📆 Sunday, June 14th | 13:00
📍Laugaren Sauna, USF Verftet, Bergen
🎫 Booking via Laugaren.no

Female Minority Voices and Laugaren warmly invite you to Poetic Sauna - a space shaped by warmth, listening and care.

For this edition we gather around Butter Honey Pig Bread by Francesca Ekwuyasi — our June Book of the Month — following a red thread of lingering: in memory, touch, longing, rupture, care, and becoming.

Inside the warmth of Laugaren Sauna, excerpts from the novel will be woven together with poetic notions, timed pauses, cooling dips, and shared listening. Moving between heat and rest, we invite stories to settle slowly in the body rather than be explained away.

This edition also welcomes South African artist and scholar Aaniyah Martin, who will join us in the poetic setting to share some of her artistic expressions exploring water, relational care, memory, and justice.

Come as you are — to listen, reflect, and coexist. 🔥💛📚

POETIC SAUNA – MAY EDITION 🔥📚
📆 Sunday, May 10 | 13:00
📍 Laugaren Sauna, USF Verftet, Bergen
🎟 Booking via Laugaren.no

Female Minority Voices and Laugaren warmly invite you to Poetic Sauna — a space shaped by warmth, listening, and care.

This month we gather around The Bandit Queens — a story of womanhood, survival, and quiet resistance, where grief, humor, and rumor intertwine.

Through readings, conversation, poetry, and sound—woven together with gentle, timed breaks for cooling down—we move between lived realities and imagined worlds, tracing a red thread of moral ambiguity where stories resist easy answers.

Come listen, reflect, and share the space.

ZUMBA & SEA DIP 💃🏾🌊

After a great Zumba session at Vitalitetssenteret with , we headed straight to Bystranden for a dip in the sun.

Refreshing, energizing, and exactly what we needed — for body, mind, and soul.

And of course, we wrapped it up the best way: sitting in the sun, eating good food, and having a nice chat.

Movement, laughter, conversation, and cold water. Doesn’t get much better than that.

☀️💦🍕

COFFEE & READ ☕📚

Some moments from our Coffee & Read gatherings in March and April.

There’s something really nice about meeting like this — sitting down with a book, good food, and taking time to just read, talk, and be together. No pressure, no structure, just a shared space to slow down and enjoy it.

These afternoons have become one of our favourite ways to spend time together.

You’re always welcome to join us.

POETIC SAUNA — APRIL EDITION 🔥🌿

Such a good one.

April’s Poetic Sauna was shaped by We Will Not Be Saved, Earth Day, and Indigenous perspectives — with a focus on reconnecting with nature, the body, and the space around us.

We moved between heat and cold, inside and outside, with live readings, music, and sound throughout. And with the sun out and the sea right there, everything just clicked.

Good energy, great people, and a reminder of how nice it is to slow down, move, and be present together.

Thanks to everyone who came — see you at the next one.

Thank you so much for a lovely and much needed conversation . It’s a great sign when the conversation lasts WAY beyond the original time.

If you haven’t been to Laksevåg Library yet, we strongly encourage you to go. It’s truly a hidden gem. A great place to just be and relax, the location is beautiful with such lovely scenery. And the people who work there are passionate and dedicated not just about literature, but social and political issues.

And it’s only a short RYDE away!
