2026 is the start of the UN's Decade of Sustainable Transport

Transport has a major role in advancing the sustainable development goals (SDGs) around the world. The DCE has been working on this for the past 15 years, connecting the best transport experts with the places that need them.

Englandโ€™s first cycle street opens in Cambridge as construction nears completion.

Adams Road is an important link between Cambridge West and the city centre. Every day, up to 3,000 people cycle here, including many commuters and students. With new development nearby, this number is expected to grow.

The new design gives cycling a more central role in the street. Cars are still welcome, but they move at bicycle speed and adapt to people cycling. This creates a calmer, safer and more comfortable route for everyone.

The Village of Pinecrest, Florida, has approved its new Bicycle and Pedestrian Master Plan. The plan was prepared by two consultants from our network: Maurits Lopes Cardozo and Dick van Veen.

The plan sets out a clear roadmap for a safe, attractive, and connected active transportation network across the village. With phased implementation and proven design principles, Pinecrest can move toward its goal of becoming a safer, greener, and better-connected community.

The Hagueโ€™s Fietspas makes bike parking easier

Gemeente Den Haag have introduced the Fietspas: a new access pass for all city bicycle parking facilities. It replaces the familiar blue keychain. Cyclists can collect their new pass at the parking facilities.

The city is introducing five colour-coded passes for different types of bicycles and light vehicles. This will help keep parking areas organised and make better use of space.

Scanning in and out will stay the same. It remains anonymous, and parking is still free for the first 24 hours. By the end of this year, the same colours will also appear on signs in the parking facilities, making it clear where each type of bicycle can be parked.

How many people cycle along your local bike path?

This may look like a lamppost, but it is actually counting bikes.

This data is crucial for understanding cycling networks: how they are used, where demand is growing, and what can be improved.

Multisensors use radar and LiDAR technology to count cyclists accurately, without raising privacy concerns.
