There are many ways of building peace in territories affected by conflict. Culture is one of them.
In Ciudad Bolívar, the Casa Cultural Potosí in Colombia is a space where art, education, memory and community come together to create new possibilities for young people, children and the territory they call home.
The Casa was born from the memory of teachers who were murdered for protecting and supporting young people in the neighbourhood. Today, that memory lives on through a popular library, a community kitchen, a music collective and rap recording studio, environmental education, and the restoration of native species in the surrounding ecosystem.
It is also a place where young people can come together to express themselves, imagine different futures and build livelihoods through culture.
PBI supports the work of Casa Cultural Potosí and the people who, through culture and memory, continue to defend life, territory and human rights. Their important work has recently been recognised through their nomination for the National Human Rights Award .
📚Peace can take many forms. Sometimes, it looks like a library, a garden, a recording studio, a community kitchen, or a group of young people imagining a different future.
