🚨 70 organisations have signed an urgent appeal calling for the release of the five imprisoned Mother Nature Cambodia activists.

Global Forest Coalition is proud to stand alongside movements and allies demanding justice for these young environmental defenders, who have been jailed for peaceful activism to protect Cambodia’s forests, rivers, wetlands, and communities.

ā€œThe five activists have peacefully advocated for environmental protection in Cambodiaā€¦ā€

Environmental defenders should never face imprisonment for defending people and nature.

What happened behind closed doors at the recent Tropical Forests Forever Facility (TFFF) investor meeting in Rotterdam?

Despite growing international attention, very little public information has emerged about what was discussed, proposed or agreed. At the same time, even supporters of the TFFF are increasingly questioning whether the initiative can mobilise the funding it promises.

In our latest article, we examine the unanswered questions surrounding the TFFF, the risks of turning forests into financial assets, and why governments should prioritise proven, rights-based solutions led by Indigenous Peoples and local communities.

🌳 Forests are not financial assets.
🌳 Rights are not optional safeguards.
🌳 Real solutions already exist.

A global coalition of civil society organizations is urging the International Finance Corporation (IFC) to reconsider proposed financing for Agronorte in Brazil.

The joint letter highlights concerns related to deforestation near Indigenous territories, environmental and social risks, and the broader expansion of industrial livestock production and factory farming systems.

Public finance institutions should invest in equitable, sustainable, and agroecological food systems — not projects linked to environmental destruction and human rights concerns.

Read and share the letter, and add your name to the petition:

Together, we can push for accountability and responsible financing.

109 organisations urge the IFC to cancel a US$20M loan to Brazil's Agronorte, citing deforestation, ApinajƩ Indigenous rights violations and supply-chain failures.

On May 1, the EU-Mercosur Agreement will take provisional effect. The decision to implement this highly controversial agreement on International Workers’ Day is a slap in the face to workers in South America and Europe. It also does a grave disservice to European democracy.

This is because the trade agreement is being implemented before the European Parliament has voted on it and the European Court of Justice has reviewed it. National parliaments are being bypassed. And this is happening at a time when, for the first time in the EU’s trade history, an agreement is not being adopted unanimously. For good reason: this agreement threatens jobs, biodiversity, health, and the climate on both sides of the Atlantic.

We demand: Democratic processes must be upheld!

No provisional application without the European Court of Justice’s review and the European Parliament’s final approval!

We’re excited to share a new toolkit for civil society from our allies at the Hands Off Mother Earth Alliance, unpacking the realities of land-based geoengineering.

As the climate crisis intensifies, dangerous distractions and false solutions are gaining ground. Land-based geoengineering is increasingly promoted as a ā€œsolutionā€ — but it carries serious risks for ecosystems, communities, biodiversity, and climate justice.

šŸ“˜ Inside the toolkit:
• What these technologies are
• The environmental and social risks they pose
• The actors and projects driving their expansion
• Why these approaches undermine real climate solutions

At a time when urgent, just, and proven climate action is needed, geoengineering diverts attention away from phasing out fossil fuels and delivering systemic change.

This resource is designed for climate justice groups, civil society networks, activists, campaigners, and researchers — bringing together critical analysis and accessible evidence to support resistance.

• Stay informed and deepen your understanding
• Take a stand in your advocacy
• Share this with your networks
• Endorse the HOME Alliance manifesto rejecting geoengineering

Let’s push for real solutions — not risky distractions.

Aviation is the pinnacle of climate injustice:
šŸŒ 80% of people have never flown
šŸ¤‘ 1% cause 50% of aviation emissions

Yet the industry is planning massive expansion, built on greenwashing and false solutions.

We don’t need offsets or techno-fixes. We need real cuts in air traffic.

Read the Press Release here: https://globalforestcoalition.org/jet-fuel-crisis-is-the-new-normal-95-groups-launch-manifesto-to-stop-aviation-growth/

In recent weeks, we’ve seen how political instability and a deepening climate crisis expose aviation’s dependence on fossil fuels as a key point of fragility.

The question isn’t whether aviation will shrink, it’s whether we shape that transition: planned, fair and democratic, or chaotic and imposed by crisis.

Across the world, communities are drawing a red line and putting forward 10 measures to phase out aviation, grounded in planetary boundaries.

We call on everybody to join us: stop airport expansion, end the most destructive and pointless flights and make way for a fair and liveable future for all.

🌳 Forests mean life, NOT business

This International Day of Forests, we’re raising the alarm on dangerous approaches that reduce forests to commodities.

The push for bioeconomy expansion, increased logging, biomass energy, and extractivism is not a solution—it’s a threat. Gender justice and the defense of our territories and rights are non-negotiable.

Forests are not fuel or commodities. They are lifelines for people, biodiversity, and the planet.

Together with our partners in the Biomass Action Network (BAN) and the Environmental Paper Network, we are calling out the FAO’s misleading messaging for this year’s ā€œForests mean businessā€.

We are pushing back and demanding a change in this narrative.

On the International Day of Forests 2026, GFC is celebrating the work of its members and reinforcing our unified commitment to counter false solutions.
