Audiologists are healthcare professionals trained to identify, assess, and manage conditions related to hearing and balance. They:
👉 Evaluate hearing loss
👉 Select and fit devices like hearing aids
👉 Inform people how to protect their hearing from loud sounds and excessive noise exposure

Audiologists are indispensable in diagnosing and treating hearing loss. Unfortunately, according to the World Health Organization, there is a great shortage of audiologists in Africa, in which the majority of countries have fewer than 1 audiologist per 1 million people. At the same time, Africa alone has about 40 million people with hearing loss, a prevalence of 3.6%. So, there is a pressing need for more audiologists and hearing care professionals.

We provide trainings in basic audiology, building knowledge and expertise on the anatomy and physiology of the hearing system, the levels of hearing loss, how to identify and signs of hearing loss, and how to conduct a hearing examination.

Our mission is to contribute to a world where every child who is deaf or hard of hearing can learn in an educational environment that is adapted to their needs and is empowered to reach their full potential. Guided by our mission, we work on capacity building for educational professionals through the implementation of training programs in collaboration with international partners.

One of our longstanding partnerships is with the Organisation of Special Needs Education Teachers - OSNET in Tanzania. Together, we train educational professionals to become trainers themselves, enabling them to independently train and coach teachers in effective teaching practices. In this way, knowledge is passed on between educational professionals, ultimately impacting and shaping lives of children who are deaf and hard of hearing.

We are grateful to all the educational professionals who have participated in our training programs and are now independently facilitating training sessions for other teachers, sharing new educational methods and tools. Together, they are preparing deaf and hard-of-hearing learners to reach their full potential.

We want to share that the first round of applications for partial individual grants to support attendance at the DbI World Conference 2027 in Davos, Switzerland, organized by Deafblind International (DbI) and the World Federation of the Deafblind (WFDB), has been opened.

This initial round of funding is available exclusively to current DbI Individual Members. The grants are intended to help make participation in the World Conference more accessible and to support greater engagement from individual members across the global community. Applications are open now and will be accepted until October 31, 2026.

Sign languages are rich languages, with their own grammar, ways of expression, rich cultural traditions, and are structurally distinct from spoken languages. There are hundreds of distinct sign languages worldwide. However, only some have obtained some form of legal recognition.

Equal access to information and public services is a human right. For deaf people, this means ensuring that national sign language is available across services and communication. Sign language is therefore an essential part of creating a truly accessible society.

While literacy is a fundamental human right, millions of people worldwide still lack basic literacy skills. Deaf and hard-of-hearing learners are among those disproportionately affected, often achieving lower literacy outcomes than their hearing peers. The challenge is not ability, but access: access to language, quality education, and inclusive learning environments.

This is why we work with partners to strengthen literacy outcomes for deaf learners, including through the development of a literacy assessment tool that better reflect their language and learning pathways. 💡 𝗥𝗲𝗳𝗹𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝘄𝗼 𝘄𝗲𝗲𝗸𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗣𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝗔𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗸𝘀𝗵𝗼𝗽𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝗖ô𝘁𝗲 𝗱'𝗜𝘃𝗼𝗶𝗿𝗲

Last April and May, Kentalis International, in collaboration with Réseau Ivoirien Pour la Promotion de l'Éducation Pour Tous Rip-Ept , organized two successful on-site Parents Awareness Workshops in Agboville, Côte d'Ivoire.

Over the course of two intensive weeks, 10 social workers (both deaf and hearing) were trained to support parents of deaf and hard-of-hearing children. Topics such as sign language, language development, positive parenting, deaf culture, and inclusion were central to the trainings.

During the second week, the social workers went out into the community. In the village of Lapo, they reached about 100 residents. Conversations helped dispel misconceptions about deafness and raise awareness: deaf children can learn and develop to their full potential, provided they receive the right support.

🌟 The training sessions are now complete and the impact is just beginning. The trained social workers can inform and empower parents, which contributes to better access to education for deaf children.

📚 𝗪𝗲'𝗿𝗲 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝘀𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟱 𝗔𝗻𝗻𝘂𝗮𝗹 𝗥𝗲𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁!

Over the past year, we continued to work closely with local partners to improve quality education for deaf and hard-of-hearing learners. With 5 international projects executed across 6 countries, we have trained 137 teacher trainers and educational professionals. Together, they have impacted the learning environment of about 3500 children.

𝗞𝗲𝘆 𝗛𝗶𝗴𝗵𝗹𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝘀:
✅ 𝗖ô𝘁𝗲 𝗱’𝗜𝘃𝗼𝗶𝗿𝗲: 𝗦𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗴𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗹𝘆 𝘀𝘂𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗱𝗲𝗮𝗳 𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗿𝗲𝗻 through a train‑the‑trainer program to improve early literacy (RMEL) and the "Strong Start for Children Who Are Deaf" project continuing this year, empowering social workers to guide parents in creating supportive, language‑rich home environments.
✅ 𝗧𝗮𝗻𝘇𝗮𝗻𝗶𝗮: 𝗘𝘅𝗽𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗲𝗮𝗰𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘄𝗶𝗱𝗲 through a blended RMEL train‑the‑trainer program, a dedicated e‑learning environment for Tanzanian teachers, and the start of a Video Interaction Guidance (VIG) program adapted into Swahili.
✅ 𝗞𝗲𝗻𝘆𝗮, 𝗥𝘄𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗮 & 𝗠𝗮𝗹𝗮𝘄𝗶: 𝗔𝗱𝘃𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗹𝘆 𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗵𝗼𝗼𝗱 𝗱𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹𝗼𝗽𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 through applied research on sign‑language‑rich environments, parental engagement, and school readiness, including training local research teams in the Sign Language Assessment Tool.
✅ 𝗭𝗮𝗺𝗯𝗶𝗮, 𝗖𝗮𝗺𝗲𝗿𝗼𝗼𝗻 & 𝗖ô𝘁𝗲 𝗱’𝗜𝘃𝗼𝗶𝗿𝗲: 𝗦𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗴𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗶𝗻𝗰𝗹𝘂𝘀𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝘁𝗲𝗮𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 with a regional VIG training week in Zambia, supporting teachers to better understand and respond to the communication needs of deaf learners.
