PAID VACANCY: STUDENT RESEARCHER

ISHA is looking for a student researcher to write our annual report on the living experience of international students in Utrecht. Yearly in December and June, we send out a survey under the international students asking how they have experienced living in Utrecht. We are looking for somebody who, for a fixed compensation, can analyze and summarize the results from this survey.

•The assignment•
Specifically, we ask you to analyze the collected research data that is obtained through the surveys of the past years. By doing this, you contribute in bringing the housing needs of the international students in Utrecht to light. Subsequently, we ask you to summarize these results into a report. The report should be finished by the end of August. Once the results have been analyzed and processed into a report, you will present the most important and relevant results to us.

•Your profile•
We are looking for a masters student or somebody with a completed university education (bachelors diploma) with a lot of experience in data processing of quantitative research. In addition, as a junior researcher you have relevant work experience in conducting research for such clients. You are analytically strong and a specialist in the field of both quantitative and qualitative research. You also enjoy making connections between different research results and like the challenge of generating new insights. Interest in the housing problems experienced by international students in Utrecht is a great advantage.

•What we offer•
You will carry out the assignment for an enthusiastic board consisting of four students. The amount of the compensation is determined in consultation depending on your experience and the expected number of hours that you will need.

•Applying•
Have you become enthusiastic about this assignment as a student researcher and do you have the stated requirements, then we are looking for you! Mail your resume and a short motivation before the first of June to [email protected]. If you have any questions about this vacancy, you can always contact us via email or take a look at our website via the link in our bio.

An excerpt of the press release from ISHA from 2021:

“The housing problem in Utrecht has been a bit of a disaster for the last few years. Each year, there are thousands of students who want and need accommodation, and a large part can not obtain it.

In 2021, the shortage of student residencies has been estimated to be more than 8000, which is an increase from the calendar year of 2019-2020. Adding to this shortage; around 3000 international students come to Utrecht each year for their studies, in desperate need of accommodation. They make up a large part of the students unable to find a room, since the search is made even more difficult for internationals versus Dutch students.

The large shortage of rooms for international students has left these students feeling desperate and hopeless about their housing options in Utrecht and this problem should definitely be improved in the future.”

The press release and the full report can be found on the ISHA website, the link is in our bio.
