Volgende week neemt De Voorkamer een korte zomerpauze om nieuwe energie op te doen en ons voor te bereiden op de drukkere periode die eraan komt 💙

Onze Community Open Uren gaan wel gewoon door! Op woensdag van 12:00 tot 18:00 ben je van harte welkom om langs te komen en de ruimte te gebruiken op jouw eigen manier. Kom gezellig langs voor een kop koffie of thee, spreek af met iemand, werk rustig aan je eigen project of neem gewoon even een momentje voor jezelf.

We wensen jullie een fijne week en kijken ernaar uit om jullie na onze korte zomerpauze weer te verwelkomen met nieuwe activiteiten en mogelijkheden om elkaar te ontmoeten. Tot snel! ☀️

Doe op 13, 20 & 27 augustus mee aan een bijzondere reeks textielworkshops en word onderdeel van een gezamenlijk, grensoverschrijdend kunstwerk, georganiseerd door het Walking With Pride and Power-project.

Samen maken we een groot vloerkleed van gevlochten textiel dat verhalen vertelt over veerkracht, solidariteit en zorg, en tegelijkertijd een statement maakt tegen de vervolging van q***r en gemarginaliseerde gemeenschappen wereldwijd. Met een eenvoudige vlechttechniek verwerken we kleurrijke stroken stof, elk gecombineerd met een woord, gedicht of korte reflectie geïnspireerd door jouw ervaringen, identiteit of dromen voor de toekomst. Alle bijdragen worden later samengebracht in één gezamenlijk kunstwerk.

❣️ Ervaring is niet nodig. Schrijf je in voor één of meerdere sessies en sluit aan voor een middag vol textiel, verhalen en ontmoeting.

Join us on 13, 20 & 27 August for a special series of textile workshops and become part of a collaborative, transnational artwork facilitated by the Walking With Pride and Power project.

Together, we'll create a large rag rug that tells stories of resilience, solidarity and care, while standing against the persecution of q***r and marginalised communities around the world. Using a simple braiding technique, we'll weave colourful textile strips together, each accompanied by a word, poem or short reflection inspired by your experiences, identity or hopes for the future. Every contribution will later become part of the collective artwork.

❣️ No previous experience is needed, just sign up for one or more sessions and join us for an afternoon of weaving textiles and community.

🍽️ Community Dinner at Café Trottoir – StraatFest at RAUM

As part of StraatFest, a special full-day programme brought to RAUM Utrecht by De Voorkamer community, we invite you to join us on Saturday 25 July from 18:00 to 19:30 for a community dinner filled with food, stories and connection.

The dinner will be prepared by our community chefs Alaa Laham and Sheida Najafi, who bring together flavours, memories and traditions from their backgrounds.

Alaa will prepare a Palestinian-inspired rice dish served with roasted marinated chicken or roasted tofu in curry sauce, accompanied by spicy tomato and cilantro sauce, and yoghurt-cucumber salad. For Alaa, this dish represents the power of food to bring people together — to celebrate, share everyday moments, or support each other during difficult times. Combining influences from Central Asia, West Asia and the Arabian Gulf, the dish reflects the ways food travels, changes and connects cultures.

Sheida will prepare Persian halva — a sweet dish made with fried flour and rose water syrup. In Iranian culture, halva is often connected to moments of remembrance and mourning, but for Sheida it also represents something more: a reminder that sweetness, connection and new memories can exist alongside any loss.

Come share a meal with us, taste these special dishes, and discover the stories behind the flavours!
