Important recognition for research at the intersection of inflammation and thrombosis. 🔬❤️

ESCI congratulates Prof. Luca Liberale on receiving the Karl Link Early Career Investigator Award in Thrombosis from the American Heart Association. 🏆

His research investigates the mechanisms linking inflammation and thrombosis, showing how inhibition of interleukin-6 can reduce arterial thrombus formation.
Conducted through international collaboration between Genoa, Zurich, and Munich, the work contributes to a better understanding of vascular inflammation and its role in cardiovascular disease.

A well-deserved recognition of research that reflects the values of the ESCI community: scientific excellence, collaboration, and clinical impact.

Congratulations, Prof. Luca Liberale! 👏

Every breakthrough begins long before the first experiment.
It begins with a question.

The quality of a research project is often shaped by the quality of the question behind it. A well-defined research question doesn't just guide a study - it lays the foundation for discoveries that can advance clinical investigation and improve patient care. 🔬

A strong research question is:
✔ Relevant to an important clinical or scientific challenge
✔ Specific and clearly defined
✔ Testable through sound scientific methods
✔ Designed to generate new knowledge

At ESCI, we believe that meaningful research starts with curiosity, is strengthened by collaboration, and creates impact through clinical relevance. Because every discovery starts with asking the right question. 💚

Would an ESCI Councillor recommend the Annual Scientific Meeting to his own colleagues?

We asked Dr. Carlos Zaragoza, ESCI Councillor, that exact question.
In this interview, he reflects on the value of the ASM, the role it plays within the ESCI community, and why the meeting matters for researchers and clinicians working across clinical and translational science. 🎥

Rather than giving away his answer, we will let him explain it in his own words. Watch the interview and discover whether Dr. Zaragoza would recommend the ASM to his fellows. 🎬

Understanding science starts with understanding its language. 📚

Clinical research is built on discovery, but clear communication is what allows those discoveries to be shared, understood, and translated into better patient care.

That's why we're introducing ESCI Vocabulary - a series designed to explain key concepts in clinical investigation and strengthen scientific communication across our community.

Whether you're an early-career researcher or an experienced clinician-scientist, a shared understanding of these concepts helps us communicate more effectively, collaborate more closely, and advance clinical investigation together.

Because at ESCI, sharing knowledge is just as important as generating it. 💚

Innovation knows no borders - and neither does the ESCI community. 🌍

Clinical investigation thrives when knowledge is shared across countries, disciplines, and institutions. That's what makes ESCI unique.

From Portugal to Italy, Sweden to Spain, and across many more countries, ESCI brings together clinicians, researchers, and scientists united by one common purpose: advancing clinical investigation to improve human health. 🔬

Our community is built on international collaboration. Every meeting, every partnership, and every scientific exchange strengthens the connections that lead to new ideas, impactful research, and lasting collaborations.

Different backgrounds. Diverse expertise. One shared mission.

A breakthrough in the lab only changes lives when it reaches the patient.

That is the power of translational research - transforming scientific discoveries into real-world improvements in prevention, diagnosis, and treatment. 🔬

At ESCI, bridging the gap between bench and bedside is at the heart of everything we do. By bringing together basic scientists, clinician-researchers, and healthcare professionals, we create opportunities for collaboration that turn knowledge into impact.

Progress in medicine depends on strong connections between disciplines, continuous scientific exchange, and a shared commitment to improving patient care.

This is what drives ESCI's mission: Research in Action: Building Healthier Futures. 💚

The best ideas often begin after taking a moment to pause. 🌿

At ESCI, we know that advancing clinical investigation takes dedication, collaboration, and curiosity. But it also requires time to reflect, recharge, and return with fresh perspectives.

As many of our members, researchers, clinicians, and collaborators take a well-earned break this August, we would like to wish you a restful and enjoyable holiday. ☀️

Thank you for being part of the ESCI community and for your continued commitment to improving human health through clinical and translational research.

We look forward to reconnecting after the summer and continuing to build a stronger, more connected clinical research community - together. 💚

The 61st Annual Scientific Meeting of the European Society for Clinical Investigation will take place in Coimbra, Portugal. 🇵🇹

With its rich academic heritage and one of Europe's oldest universities, Coimbra provides the perfect setting to continue ESCI's mission of advancing clinical investigation through scientific excellence, interdisciplinary collaboration, and meaningful exchange.

Under the theme "Metabolic Health in an Obesogenic World: Science, Literacy and Clinical Action," ESCI 2027 will bring together clinicians, researchers, and scientists from across Europe and beyond to address one of the most significant health challenges of our time.

The conversations started in Lisbon will continue in Coimbra - and we look forward to welcoming our community once again for another inspiring edition of the ESCI Annual Scientific Meeting. 🤝

The most valuable takeaway from ASM 2026? Progress happens when disciplines come together. 🤝

The symposium programme at ESCI 2026 showcased the diversity of today's clinical investigation while highlighting a common goal: transforming scientific discovery into better patient care. 🔬

From Mitochondria: Physiology and Pathology to Cardiovascular and Renal, Endocrinology, Metabolism & Liver, Neuroscience, Clinical and Molecular Oncology, Rheumatology, and Women's Health, each symposium explored different aspects of human disease. Yet together, they told one powerful story.

These discussions reflect the very essence of ESCI: bringing together researchers and clinicians from diverse fields to address complex health challenges through shared knowledge and interdisciplinary thinking. 🧠

What does it take to keep a scientific society moving forward?

Behind every successful scientific meeting, research initiative, and community is careful planning - including responsible financial stewardship.

In our latest interview, Dr. Marcel Twickler, Secretary Treasurer of ESCI, shares his perspective on managing the financial side of the Society and the responsibilities that come with the role. 🎥

🎬 Watch the interview and discover how strong governance helps build a stronger scientific community.
