We have reached a new milestone in our school project (new facility/building). Progress is being made, but we are still not there yet in reaching the ultimate goal. On behalf of the local community and all those involved, we are deeply grateful for this great accomplishment. These images show the current status of our school after the plastering and paving of the inside and outside of the school building (28-03-2026).

We hebben een nieuwe mijlpaal bereikt in ons schoolproject: het nieuwe schoolgebouw krijgt steeds meer vorm. Er wordt mooie vooruitgang geboekt, al zijn we nog niet helemaal aan het eind van de werkzaamheden.
Namens de lokale gemeenschap en alle betrokkenen willen wij onze oprechte dank uitspreken voor deze geweldige prestatie en de voortdurende inzet van iedereen die hieraan bijdraagt. Op deze foto's is de huidige stand van zaken te zien na het stucen en bestraten van zowel de binnen- als de buitenzijde van het gebouw (28-03-2026).

Wilde Ganzendag 2026
Op zaterdag 21 maart 2026 vond de Wilde Ganzendag plaats in Amersfoort. Het was een interessante dag met de drijvende krachten achter particuliere initiatieven, gastsprekers, workshops en netwerkmogelijkheden. De gastsprekers waren werkelijk boeiend. Ik was vooral geraakt door de Ubuntu-filosofie “Ik ben omdat wij zijn” van Mpho Tutu van Furth (online), de dochter van Aartsbisschop Desmond Tutu. Haar manier om de Ubuntu-filosofie te verweven met persoonlijke verhalen, die impact hebben op het leven van gemeenschappen in tijden van uitdagingen, crisis en onzekerheid, is voor mij persoonlijk een belangrijke motivatie in mijn werk op het gebied van gemeenschapsontwikkeling.
Het was een dag die mensen samenbracht die het verschil maken, wereldwijd verbonden door dezelfde principes: “dat compassie de drijvende kracht is achter duurzame verandering”.

Wilde Ganzen Day 2026
On Saturday the 21st of March 2026, the Wilde Ganzen Day took place in Amersfoort.
It was an interesting day consists of the driving forces behind private initiatives, guests speakers, workshops and networking. The guests speakers were truly captivated. I was captivated by the philosophy of Ubuntu “I am because we are” by Mpho Tutu van Furth, (online) the daughter of Archbishop Desmond Tutu. Her Incorporation of the Ubuntu philosophy into personal stories that impact community lives in times of challenges, crisis and uncertainties, is a motivational factor to me personally regarding my community development work.
It was a day that brings people together who make a difference, connected worldwide by the same principles: “that compassion is the driving force behind sustainable change”.

On the 22nd of June 2025, I once again set foot in the village of Gobonkoh Kasonko, located in Port Loko district in northern Sierra Leone. My previous visit was roughly a year ago. What I found fills me with pride and gratitude.
The essence of my visit was to review the progress of the school construction and take stock of what is needed towards the next phase of the school project. Our school project has achieved a major milestone, which is the entry into another phase.

It is a collaborative progress and commitment between the locals, the school coordinator Mr. Ishmael Kanu and our Foundation Hope for All (de eerste stap), working together towards a common goal.
See photos: when these two elements (collaboration and perseverance) combined, it lead to a great result.

On behalf of the board of Stichting Hope for All, we would like to express our sincere gratitude to Sichting Wilde Ganzen for their indispensable support and collaboration. We would also like to thank Steunstichting Deurman for their support and valuable contribution.
To all those who support our project: thank you all. Because of you the access to basic and better education in Gbonkoh Kasonko is getting closer.

Op 22 juni 2025 mocht ik opnieuw voet zetten in het dorp Gobonkoh Kasonko, gelegen in het district Port Loko in het noorden van Sierra Leone. Precies één jaar na mijn vorige bezoek keerde ik terug en wat ik aantrof, vervulde me met trots en dankbaarheid.
Mijn doel was helder: met eigen ogen de voortgang van de schoolbouw bekijken en inventariseren wat er nodig is om het project naar de volgende fase te brengen. En wat een verschil! Het dak is inmiddels geplaatst, en alle lokalen zijn voorzien van stevige metalen deuren en ramen. Een enorme stap voorwaarts maar we zijn er nog niet.

De kracht achter deze vooruitgang? Een prachtige samenwerking tussen de lokale gemeenschap, onze toegewijde schoolcoördinator de heer Ishmael Kanu, en onze stichting Hope for All vanuit Nederland. Samen bouwen we letterlijk en figuurlijk aan een betere toekomst voor de kinderen in dit dorp. Stap voor stap, steen voor steen.

On behalf of Hope for All Foundation, I attended the Impact Fair which took place from 3rd to 5th of April 2025, at Jaarbeurs in Utrecht, The Netherlands. This is where you meet the Change Makers. It was a diverse programme consists of numerous themes, gust speakers, workshops and innovation.
The Fair revolved around one message “Everyone can make an impact anywhere – at work, at home, at school, in your hometown or even during your vacation.”
I was inspired by the commitment of the attendees, making positive impact in different areas of life.

Namens Stichting Hope for All heb ik op 5 april 2025 de Impact Fair bijgewoond. Dit evenement vond plaats van 3 tot en met 5 april in de Jaarbeurs in Utrecht. Hier ontmoette je de changemakers van nu. Het programma was divers en uitgebreid, met verschillende thema’s, gastsprekers, workshops en innovaties.
Alles draaide om één boodschap: “Iedereen kan overal impact maken – op het werk, thuis, op school, in je woonplaats of zelfs tijdens je vakantie.”
Ik was geïnspireerd door de inzet van de aanwezigen op verschillende leefgebieden.

Sierra Leone Day
On Saturday the 22nd of February 2025, the Second Edition of the Sierra Leone Day meeting took place at the Wilde Ganzen office in Amersfoort. It was an interactive and a productive meeting. We had a presentation from (Piet Houtenbos of SEHH/SHF) on Family life education. We gained a reflective insight from Esly based on her visit to Sierra Leone. The meeting was inclusive with diverse participants who are currently engaged in different sectors in Sierra Leone.
The Second Edition of this meeting was a follow-up meeting to discussed the progress that has been made and the ongoing developments. Among the participants were representatives from various Foundations, Organizations, private initiatives, and individuals involved in developmental projects in Sierra Leone, and potential private initiatives towards Sierra Leone.

Recently, Sierra Leone has been featured in different foreign media with coverage mainly focused on the country's negative impacts related to drugs.
However, The Sierra Leone Day meeting was different. It was about hope, innovation, reflection, private initiatives, entrepreneurship, networking and working together, on how to combat the challenges faced by the country, especially to break the cycle of poverty and the access to education.
It was great engaging with some of these philanthropists, community of practice and global citizens, who are trying to collaborate, assist, support, like some of us are already doing, in order to alleviate the level of poverty in different ways.
It was a very productive day.

Sierra Leone Tafel
Namens Stichting Hope for All heb ik de Sierra Leone middagbijeenkomst bijgewoond. Deze vond plaats op zaterdag 22 februari 2025 op het kantoor van Wilde Ganzen in Amersfoort. Het was de tweede bijeenkomst en het programma was interactief. Er werd teruggeblikt op de reis van Esly naar Sierra Leone, en er was ruimte om elkaar te leren kennen en te netwerken. De bijeenkomst was bedoeld voor stichtingen, particuliere initiatieven, organisaties en individuen die betrokken zijn bij Sierra Leone.

Het land komt vaak in het nieuws door negatieve berichten over drugsgerelateerde kwesties. Toch bood deze dag ook hoop. Het was mooi om te zien hoe mensen, organisaties en individuen die nog steeds in het land geloven, zich met hart en ziel inzetten om particuliere initiatieven te ondersteunen in verschillende sectoren.
We hebben kennis gedeeld en ervaringen uitgewisseld met initiatieven, stichtingen en organisaties die al actief zijn in Sierra Leone, en met anderen die bereid zijn om daar aan de slag te gaan. Als community of practice hebben we ook kennis en ervaringen gedeeld over verschillende thema’s.

This visit took place on Sunday the 10th of November 2024. We are pleased with her visit. The essence of this visit is about collaboration and building relationships between Foundation Wilde Ganzen, our partners/community on the ground and Foundation Hope for All.

Namens stichting Wilde Ganzen heeft Elsy op zondag 10 november 2024 een bezoek gebracht aan het schoolproject van Stichting Hope for All in Sierra Leone. Wij zijn erg blij met haar bezoek.
