Classic GP Parade Organisation Bids Farewell to Willem Zoet
It is with great sadness that the Classic GP Parade organisation mourns the passing of former motorcycle racer Willem Zoet, affectionately known as βMr. Stimorolβ, who passed away on 7 October 2026.
Willem was a celebrated competitor at the Tubbergen races, where he won both 500cc races on the Tubbergen circuit in 1980. Just as he had done the previous year, he also claimed the overall 500cc victory in 1981.
Although Willem often stood in the shadow of the βBig Threeβ Wil, Jack and Boet, he was a formidable competitor at national and international level, regularly challenging and defeating his direct rivals.
When the inaugural Classic GP Parade took place in Tubbergen in 2014, having Willem Zoet on the starting grid was an absolute must for the organisation.
Reaching him by telephone proved difficult, so we visited the workshop of Zoet Engineering in Tiel twice to speak with him in person.
Following some friendly but persistent persuasion from the organiser, Willem finally agreed to take part. On 9 June 2014, he climbed back aboard his iconic Stimorol motorcycle for the first time since his crash at the 1981 San Marino Grand Prix.
It would prove to be Willemβs final appearance on a motorcycle. He never raced again after that memorable day.
Willem Zoet was a gifted technician and engineer, a man with a clear vision and a deep passion for motorcycles. His technical expertise, determination and achievements earned him a special place in the hearts of racing fans.
Willem βStimorolβ Zoet will always be remembered by his many fans and by the people of Tubbergen, where he celebrated so many memorable victories.
His return to the track at the first Classic GP Parade in 2014 remains a particularly special memory for the organisation a moment that brought a legendary rider back to the circuit and gave fans one last opportunity to see him reunited with his beloved Stimorol motorcycle.
Rest in peace, Willem. You will never be forgotten.
