De is vorige week begonnen! In Nederland wordt de komende dagen extra veel aandacht besteed aan kinderboeken en leesplezier. Op scholen, bij bibliotheken en bij boekhandels worden diverse activiteiten georganiseerd om het leesplezier te stimuleren. Het thema van de Kinderboekenweek 2025 is ‘Spot aan!’

Bij Biblionef geloven we dat elk kind recht heeft op mooie leesboeken! Help ieder kind leesplezier te geven.

The Dutch Children’s Book Week 2026 started last week! The Dutch Children’s Book Week is the annual celebration of children’s books and reading pleasure in the Netherlands. At schools, libraries, and bookstores various activities will be organized to get children excited about reading. The theme of this year’s Children’s Book week is ‘Spotlight On!’.

Meet Marvin Hokstam: a journalist, educator, and storyteller who has built his entire career around service to community. He started out in 1992 as a freelance journalist and went on to work for Surinamese, Caribbean, Dutch and international media. In 2026 he published his first novel, a thriller called ‘Het Punt’ that begins with the murder of a racist Amsterdam politician and unspools into a story spanning Ghana, Suriname, and the Netherlands, tackling colonial legacy, identity, and social polarization along the way.

Sint Martin students will meet Marvin Hokstam at the literary exchanges on September 23rd and 24th, 2026.

Maak kennis met Marvin Hokstam: een journalist, docent en verhalenverteller die zijn hele carrière heeft opgebouwd rondom dienstbaarheid aan de gemeenschap. Hij begon in 1992 als freelancejournalist en werkte daarna voor Surinaamse, Caribische, Nederlandse en internationale media. Meet Rima Orie: a Dutch fantasy author who loves taking her readers on fantastic adventures to magical worlds. She weaves magic into history, folkore, and more. Rima’s debut, 'De Zwendelprins', was nominated for the ‘Hebban Debut Prize’, the ‘Beste Boek voor Jongeren’ and the ‘Kleine Cervantes’. 'Within the Heart of Wicked Creatures' is her second book which won the prize for the ‘Beste Boek voor Jongeren’. She was invited to write a story for the Dutch Book Week Gift for Young Adults: 3PAK 2023. Her most recent work is the second book of the Bloodmoon-duology: 'Onze versplinterde zielen'.

Meet Liliana Erasmus: a Dutch Caribbean writer who has lived in The Netherlands and is back in Aruba where she writes for children of all ages and young adults. Her newest publication ‘Zap! Zap! Zzziennng!’ has been turned into an immersive, multi-purpose audiobook. Her debut, the children’s poetry collection ‘Rima Rond di Aruba’ is a local bestseller, and the start of Liliana’s career as an author (and illustrator) of children’s stories, poems, songs, radio and short plays in Papiamento, Dutch and English.

Maak kennis met Liliana Erasmus: een Nederlands-Caribische schrijfster die in Nederland heeft gewoond en nu terug is op Aruba, waar ze schrijft voor kinderen van alle leeftijden en jongvolwassenen. Haar nieuwste publicatie ‘Zap! Zap! Zzziennng!’ is omgevormd tot een meeslepende, multifunctionele luisterboek. Haar debuut, de kinderpoëziebundel ‘Rima Rond di Aruba’, is een lokale bestseller en het begin van Liliana’s carrière als auteur (en illustrator) van kinderverhalen, gedichten, liedjes, radio- en korte toneelstukken in het Papiaments, Nederlands en Engels.

Meet Sharlon Willems: a children’s book author, born in Curaçao and living in Bonaire, fascinated at a young age by stories - from the tales of Ompie Ellis to the songs of yesteryear. Inspired by the power of language, music, and history, he has written books full of adventure, humour, and meaningful themes, such as ‘Mil Stap Mas Hundu’ and ‘Ravino i Kai - E Katchet’i Buriku’. He sees himself as a cultural writer, who not only entertains but also conveys and raises awareness. The story comes alive, and the audience feels it.

Meet Greta Rodney: a class teacher and librarian, working in the field of early childhood education for over 15 years. She currently teaches English to preschool and primary students at the Happy School in La Savane, Grand Case. She enjoys writing, studying topics on language development and exploring local history and cultural elements. She is one of the founding members of the association Les Pepites de Colombier, an association focused on promoting culture, education, and communication skills.

Sint Martin students will meet Greta Rodney at the literary exchanges on September 23, Oktober 1st and 2nd, 2026.

Ze geeft momenteel Engels aan kleuter- en basisschoolleerlingen op de Happy School in La Savane, Grand Case. Meet Joselyne Arnell: an educator, author, and primary school Education Officer from Sint Martin who has dedicated her career to fostering literacy and cultural pride in the Caribbean. Deeply inspired by her grandfather’s oral storytelling traditions, she writes vibrant children's books—including ‘Ignacio and the Mysterious Egg’, and ‘New Moon for Quashiba’—that weave together local flora, fauna, and historical events to teach young readers about resilience, friendship, and cultural heritage.

Meet Ralph Cantave: a journalist from St. Maarten who focuses on topics about local culture, government, young people, and everyday issues on the island. With a real understanding of Caribbean life, Cantave gives a voice to people who aren’t always heard and explains topics in a way that is accessible to everyone.

He has also written children's/young adult fiction and history-themed work, including ‘21 & Savage’ and ‘Give Me Back Me Kong’.

More wonderful literary encounters took place on Friday, September 11th, as Ange Jessurun and Rochelle Ward visited classes at a secondary school on Sint Maarten together. The students were moved by the stories and poems presented by the authors. They especially enjoyed Ange Jessurun’s accounts of her family’s history.

Ange Jessurun is a writer with Curaçaoan and Surinamese family roots spanning Chinese, African and Caribbean heritage. Rochelle Ward, who also writes as Faizah Tabasamu, is a St. Martin poet, writer, educator, and cultural advocate.

Meer prachtige literaire ontmoetingen vonden afgelopen vrijdag 11 september plaats, toen Ange Jessurun en Rochelle Ward samen klassen bezochten op een middelbare school op Sint Maarten. De scholieren waren geraakt door de verhalen en gedichten die door de auteurs werden gepresenteerd. Ze genoten vooral van de verhalen van Ange Jessurun over de geschiedenis van haar familie.

Ange Jessurun is een schrijver met Curaçaose en Surinaamse familieachtergrond, met wortels in zowel de Chinese, Afrikaanse als Caribische culturen. Rochelle Ward, die ook schrijft onder de naam Faizah Tabasamu, is een dichter, schrijver, docent en cultureel pleitbezorger van Sint Maarten.
