✨ Spotlight on Impact: Alyssa Jade McDonald-Baertl

As part of our series celebrating the inspiring women who participated in the Top 100 Women in Social Enterprise, we are proud to highlight women who are using leadership, entrepreneurship and innovation to create meaningful social impact.

Meet Alyssa Jade McDonald-Baertl, a governance and innovation leader working at the intersection of entrepreneurship, investment, technology and sustainable development.

💡 With 15 years of experience across venture building, portfolio oversight and board governance, Alyssa brings an entrepreneur’s instinct to the challenge of turning ideas and funding into solutions that reach the real market.

🌍 In 2026, Alyssa chairs WorldFish , serves on the Supervisory Board and Audit Committee of TAKKT AG, and contributes to the CGIAR Board. Across four continents, she has held governance roles spanning food, water, land and livelihoods.

🚀 Through her practice, BLYSS, Alyssa advises the European Commission , the German government and United Nations Development Programme - UNDP , working with boards and executive teams to navigate complex decisions and turn innovation into lasting impact. Her work has helped move more than €4 billion in innovation funding between 2015 and 2022.

💜 Alyssa also works at the intersection of technology and regulation, developing board-level AI governance frameworks and evaluating innovations across artificial intelligence, biotechnology and advanced materials. She sees European regulation not only as an obligation, but as an opportunity to drive responsible innovation.

Her approach to leadership is shaped by a belief in honest decision-making, resilience and taking responsibility - lessons she also draws from her time sailing and from navigating complex environments across more than 20 countries.

Meet Tracy ORourke, CEO and Founder of Vivid Edge. 🌟

🌍 Tracy is a passionate advocate for the climate agenda, with a particular focus on the critical - yet often overlooked - role of energy efficiency in helping businesses move towards net zero.

💡 Drawing on her background in international banking, finance and aircraft leasing, Tracy founded Vivid Edge to encourage greater investment and action in energy efficiency. Today, Vivid Edge partners with businesses throughout their energy efficiency journey, helping them reduce energy consumption while allowing them to stay focused on their core activities.

🌱 Tracy highlights energy efficiency as the “unsung hero” of the climate agenda, a powerful first step towards net zero that can deliver significant reductions in energy consumption in a relatively short time.

💜 Beyond climate action, Tracy is a strong advocate for diversity, women’s empowerment and entrepreneurship. As a Fellow of the Cartier Women's Initiative and Barclays Unreasonable, she supports and champions women and impact entrepreneurs who are working to create positive change.

🌟 Alongside her work at Vivid Edge, Tracy also contributes her expertise as an Independent Non-Executive Director at Aviva Insurance Ireland and as a board member of A Greater Good Foundation, supporting disadvantaged young people in Chicago.

Through her leadership, Tracy demonstrates how business, entrepreneurship and climate action can come together to drive meaningful impact, while creating greater opportunities for people and communities.

DIGI-SEII Participant Nina Nikolich from the Western Balkan Startup Alliance shares her perspective as a social impact professional from North Macedonia. Next to learning about practical tools and real-world insights, peer exchange is an essential aspect of the DIGI-SEII programme. Together, participants identify common problems and discuss possible solutions to overcome challenges and realise a digital strategy to scale their organisation’s impact.

🚀 As Co-founder and CEO of Star Sleep, Eri continues to combine entrepreneurship with a strong social purpose, demonstrating how innovative business models can contribute to positive change.

Her work extends far beyond entrepreneurship. Eri is a keynote speaker on empowerment and entrepreneurship for women, a TEDx workshop instructor, and has contributed to numerous Erasmus+ and civil society initiatives as a leader, project manager, trainee and mentor.

💜 Eri has also founded and chaired the voluntary association I’m Still a Child, supporting abused and vulnerable children. Through her extensive social activism, she has directly or indirectly contributed to initiatives benefiting almost 11,000 people.
