🔒15 years of legal battles. Unwavering integrity. Full exoneration.
The Supreme Court of Greece has officially annulled the conviction of Andreas Georgiou, former President of the Hellenic Statistical Authority (ELSTAT).

In 2010, Georgiou did what every statistician is sworn to do: he reported the real fiscal deficits and debt of Greece, adhering strictly to the European Statistics Code of Practice. Because the truth was difficult to face, he endured 15 years of legal prosecutions for refusing to subject official data to a political vote.
Decision 922/2026 confirms Andreas Georgiou faithfully followed the law and upheld professional independence.

Why does this landmark ruling matter far beyond Greece?
In an era where public trust in data is continuously challenged, political interference in official statistics threatens the very foundation of evidence-informed policy.

The International Statistical Institute (ISI) is immensely relieved that justice has finally prevailed.
