💡What does resilience look like for civil society in the MENA region?

From government restrictions to growing donor compliance requirements, civil society organizations (CSOs) in the MENA are navigating an increasingly complex and hostile environment.

Under the Civic Horizons project, Human Security Collective consulted CSOs across Morocco, Tunisia, Libya, Iraq, Jordan, and Lebanon to understand how they adapt, build trust, and sustain their work despite shrinking civic space. Many organizations emphasized the importance of solidarity, sharing knowledge, tactics, and support among peers.

Our new interactive report is an attempt to do just that, bringing together organizations' insights to show both the challenges they face and the strategies they use to stay resilient.

As part of the Civic Horizons project, Human Security Collective held the “Healing in Times of Violence” workshops in Jordan, Lebanon, Libya, and Morocco. Facilitated by Nohad ElHajj from Perspectivity, these sessions created a space for civil society actors to reflect and share experiences of healing in the face of ongoing challenges.

Participants explored what healing means both individually and collectively, and reflected on ways to foster resilience, empathy, and safe spaces within their communities.

🌱 Across the Middle East and North Africa, children are tapping into the region’s rich tradition of storytelling to imagine a safer, more sustainable future.

As part of the Civic Horizons project, Human Security Collective led a regional initiative in Tunisia, Lebanon, Iraq, and Libya, where children explored local environmental challenges and transformed them into creative stories rooted in their cultures.

Each story is accompanied by a practical handbook and facilitation guide to help youth groups, climate organizations, and educators adapt this approach in their own communities.
