NYCHRP is a local education and advocacy group based in NYC that works to promote social, economic, and political alternatives that foster democracy and peace based on justice in the Philippines and for Filipinos in the diaspora today.

💥 BROOKLYN ART BOOK FAIR: FILIPINO MIGRANTS FIGHT BACK! 💥

This weekend, NY Committee For Human Rights in the Philippines (NYCHRP), GABRIELA-NY, and Mission to End Modern Slavery (MEMS) hosted an educational discussion and collaborative zine making workshop as part of the BK Art Book Fair! Together we learned about the root causes of migration, U.S. imperialism in the Philippines, and how Filipino migrants are organizing to confront their oppressors and build people power!!

Specifically, we highlighted the work of migrant-led struggles such as Tanggol Migrante Movement and Migrante NY and their Justice for Filipino Caregivers campaign in NYC. Our zine-in-progress used handmade paper butterflies to map attendee migration journeys, with their migration stories tied to them. We ended our workshop with a discussion of how we can use our art and cultural work to change material conditions for all oppressed peoples!

Filipino Migrants Fight Back! A Participatory Study and Workshop on Filipino Migrant Organizing with Migrante NY, Gabriela NY, Mission to End Modern Slavery, and the New York Committee for Human Rights in the Philippines

This participatory study will present zine-in-progress materials on the struggle of Filipino migrants in the United States, addressing the root causes which force Filipinos to migrate, and the system the Philippine government has created to extract money from vulnerable migrant workers. We will share stories from migrant experiences in the United States, highlighting the ways they have self-organized and fought back against exploitation from employers, the US and Philippine governments, and ICE. Participants will be invited to contribute ideas on how to develop this material for a future zine.

🗣Filipino Migrants Speak: A Grassroots Examination of the Global Compact on Migration 🗣

Join Migrante USA, Mission to End Modern Slavery (MEMS), and New York Committee for Human Rights in the Philippines (NYCHRP) for a story-sharing event on Filipino migration. This side event to the International Migration Review Forum (IMRF) will center stories and testimonials that reveal the impact of Philippine migration governance on the lives of Filipino migrants, their families and communities, with attention to the structural factors that drive out-migration.
