Hi everyone, MENA Association and Q***r Leiden University are collaborating on an exclusive short film screening taking place on the 29th of April at Beehive Spui!

The programe for the evening is as follows: we will be watching three q***r short films, each will be briefly introduced. After the screenings, there will be a mixer where we can discuss the films and connect with one another. Drinks and pizza will be provided.

I Never Promised You a Yasmine Garden (2024), Teyama Alkamli, 20 min
ALIENS IN BEIRUT (2025), Raghed Charabaty, 16 mins
Baba (2021), dir. by Adam Ali and Sam Arbor, 18 min

The overarching themes of these films ultimately center on identity and the characters’ relationships to their home countries, shaped by contexts of change and uncertainty. Through intimate, personal storytelling, they explore how individuals navigate belonging and emotional fragmentation. Central to this is the question of who they are, where they belong, and how their cultural and generational identities are shaped. The films highlight everyday experiences, often from a coming-of-age perspective. In doing so, they reveal how identity is formed and challenged amid uncertainty.

We hope to see you there!!
