Climate Literacy for Sustainable Futures: Libraries Empowering Communities to Act

At today’s session, ENSULIB and the IFLA Information Literacy Section brought together international perspectives on how libraries can strengthen climate literacy and empower communities to take meaningful action.

Chaired by Ning Zou and moderated by Catherine Ross, the session featured contributions from Abbie Teel, Brady Lund, Alison Stevenson, Kyungmin Lee and Sabelo Chizwina.

The presentations explored green practices in academic libraries, carbon literacy, library-mediated pathways to climate action and inclusive information literacy—demonstrating how libraries can connect reliable knowledge with practical community engagement.
Thank you to our chairs, speakers and everyone who joined this important conversation in Busan. Climate action begins with informed communities—and libraries help make that possible. 🌿

🌿 ENSULIB Business Meeting at IFLA WLIC 2026

Today, the ENSULIB Standing Committee came together in Busan to reflect on our progress, share updates and shape the next chapter of our work.

We reviewed the year’s achievements—including the publication and promotion of the IFLA Green Library Guidelines, the continued growth of the IFLA Green Library Award, international knowledge-sharing activities and our work to strengthen the role of libraries in climate literacy and sustainable community action.

We also discussed new projects, future collaborations and ways to turn global sustainability goals into practical tools and actions for libraries of all types.

As IFLA approaches its centenary, ENSULIB is looking ahead with renewed energy: building stronger partnerships, amplifying inspiring practices and ensuring that environmental responsibility remains at the heart of the global library field.

Thank you to our Standing Committee members, partners and observers for contributing their ideas, experience and commitment. Together, we continue to move from guidelines to action. 💚
