EMEA CHRIE - The European Council on Hotel, Restaurant & Institutional Education. EuroCHRIE represents around 200 International CHRIE members.

The European Federation brings together educators from hospitality & tourism management schools and universities into a global network in close co-operation with industry representatives. Under the CHRIE umbrella, both education and industry combine their efforts to shape the future of hospitality & tourism. EuroCHRI's working territory covers Europe, Middle-East and Africa.

Congratulations to Our New President – Heidi Anaya

There are people who become an integral part of an organisation. For EMEA CHRIE, Heidi Anaya is certainly one of them.

For more than five years, Heidi has been a dedicated member of the EMEA CHRIE Board, serving as Director of Industry Relations, Director of Membership Services & Development, Vice President and now, President of EMEA CHRIE.

Her hospitality journey began more than 35 years ago as a Front Desk Agent. Since then, she has built an outstanding career across operations, sales, human resources, training and professional development, becoming a respected leader in hospitality education.

Today, as Head of Education at Russell Partnership Technology, Heidi supports universities in more than 30 countries with innovative educational technologies and business simulations. For over a decade, she has also led the annual EMEA CHRIE University Challenge, inspiring future hospitality leaders across Europe, the Middle East and Africa.

Her personal motto, "Helping People to Gain Knowledge and Enhance Skills," perfectly reflects her approach to education. She believes that education is about empowering people to grow, build confidence and reach their full potential.

It is a great honour for EMEA CHRIE to welcome Heidi as our President. We are confident that her experience, passion and commitment to education will continue to strengthen our community and inspire hospitality and tourism educators throughout our region.

Congratulations, Heidi! We wish you every success in your presidency and look forward to another exciting chapter for EMEA CHRIE.

🎓 EMEA CHRIE at the ICHRIE Global Conference 2026

This week, the EMEA CHRIE team took part in the ICHRIE Global Conference 2026 in Las Vegas, bringing together hospitality educators, researchers and industry leaders from around the world.

The conference provided an inspiring platform to discuss the latest research, educational initiatives, innovation in hospitality and opportunities for international collaboration.

For the EMEA CHRIE team, it was a valuable opportunity to reconnect with colleagues, strengthen existing partnerships, exchange ideas and explore new opportunities for future cooperation.

A big thank you to everyone we had the pleasure of meeting. We look forward to continuing these conversations and seeing you again at future CHRIE events!

Conversing, Co-Creating and Designing: The Evolution of Personalisation in Hospitality Spaces

EMEA-CHRIE members continue to drive innovation across hospitality education and research. Today, we are pleased to highlight the work of Dr Álvaro Arrieta Valle, EMEA-CHRIE Area Consultant for Spain & Portugal, and CETT Barcelona, who recently completed the GIVAH project exploring the use of generative AI, intelligent agents and immersive technologies in hospitality design.

Developed at the Alimara Living Lab (Hotel Universitari Alimara, CETT – Barcelona), GIVAH is an applied research and innovation project investigating how generative AI can support hospitality professionals in the co-creation of spaces and guest experiences.

The project explored multimodal interaction by combining voice and gesture to make the design of hospitality environments more intuitive, personalised and collaborative for professionals, guests and technology alike.
The project concluded with a public event bringing together partners from both industry and academia to share research findings, demonstrations and reflections on the future of AI-driven hospitality design.
GIVAH sits at the intersection of applied research, human-centred innovation and hospitality education—three areas that are becoming increasingly interconnected as our industry continues to rethink the guest experience through emerging technologies.

EMEA-CHRIE congratulates Dr Álvaro Arrieta Valle and the CETT Barcelona team on the successful completion of this project. We look forward to following its future publications, collaborations and continued contribution to innovation in hospitality education and research.

Back in the EU Programmes – Exciting News from Hungary
EMEA-CHRIE is pleased to share encouraging news from Hungary and to introduce Dr Klára Karakasné Morvay, our Hungarian Area Coordinator and Associate Professor at Budapest University of Economics and Business.

Recent developments suggest that the Hungarian government is making substantial progress in reaching an agreement with EU decision-makers, which could soon enable Hungarian universities to fully rejoin the Erasmus+ and Horizon Europe programmes.
Over the past few years, participation in these key EU education and research initiatives has been significantly restricted for most Hungarian universities, limiting opportunities for student and faculty mobility, international collaboration and academic exchange.

The anticipated return to these programmes would reopen valuable opportunities for cooperation across Europe and beyond. EMEA-CHRIE warmly encourages its members and partners to reconnect with Hungarian secondary and higher education institutions, particularly in the fields of tourism and hospitality.

We look forward to renewed collaboration through joint research projects, educational initiatives, study visits, faculty and student exchanges, and the sharing of knowledge and best practices.
EMEA-CHRIE welcomes this positive development and looks forward to strengthening partnerships with colleagues across Hungary.

Instead, let's think of it as a little extra time for your ideas.

Thanks to the strong interest from researchers, educators and industry professionals around the world, and in response to numerous requests from prospective contributors, we are pleased to provide additional time for preparing and submitting your work.

From 28–31 May 2026, members of the EMEA CHRIE Board of Directors — Yasemin Oruc, Heidi Anaya and Cindy Heo — represented EMEA CHRIE at the 24th APacCHRIE Conference and the 17th APacCHRIE Youth Conference in Osaka, Japan.

Hosted for the first time in Japan by Ritsumeikan University Business School and School of Hotel and Tourism Management, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, the conference brought together hospitality and tourism educators, researchers, industry professionals and students from across the Asia-Pacific region and beyond.

Under the theme “Futurizing Tourism and Hospitality: Embracing New Challenges and Innovation”, participants explored some of the most important issues shaping the future of our industry, including sustainability, responsible tourism, talent development, digital transformation and emerging technologies.

The conference featured an extensive academic and industry programme, research presentations, panel discussions, networking events and the APacCHRIE Youth Conference, creating valuable opportunities for collaboration and knowledge exchange among hospitality and tourism educators worldwide.

EMEA CHRIE is proud to strengthen its connections with colleagues from the Asia-Pacific region and to support international dialogue that advances hospitality and tourism education, research and industry engagement.
