In Cambodja wonen talloze talentvolle jongeren die zich graag willen inzetten voor hun land en voor de wereld. Hierdoor kunnen zij hun potentie niet realiseren. Bovendien missen zij de kennis om zich sterk te maken voor de milieu-uitdagingen waar Cambodja voor staat. Chikara Cambodia geeft deze jongeren de kans geven om een vervolg opleiding te volgen. Tegelijkertijd

leiden wij hen op tot milieuleiders van Cambodja. Zij krijgen via het 'Chikara Cambodia programma' kennis en ervaring mee rondom het milieu en de klimaatuitdagingen. Zij delen deze kennis en ervaring vervolgens weer met de mensen van de arme community 's, zodat zij met elkaar komen tot een bewuster en schoner Cambodja en daarmee ook weerbaarder zullen zijn tegen de mondiale en lokale klimaatuitdagingen.

From Impact to Ownership – Chikara Cambodia at the Waste Summit 2026

At the Waste Summit 2026, themed “Scaling Cambodia’s Circular Economy: From Waste to Value,” Stichting Chikara Cambodia had the opportunity to present the impact of our five projects and how they contribute to a cleaner and more sustainable Cambodia.

What made this moment especially meaningful was that the presentation, was delivered by Yoy Sanyan and Marc Chhoeut the very first Chikara scholarship students who joined our programme seven years ago. Today, they are proud alumni and valued members of our local Chikara team.

The remainder of the day was organised by our local team Heng Ram Mao Sokpheak Rith SreyYon and Sill SreyYen together with our Chikara youth. Seeing them take the lead is exactly what Chikara Cambodia is all about: building local capacity, creating ownership, and working towards long-term independence.

We are incredibly proud of our entire local team and all the Chikara young people who continue to inspire us every day. Eco-Soap Bank Cambodia Sreyleak Pheng , it is wonderful working together with you and being part of this special day.

From Vision to Impact: The Chikara Cambodia Journey

What started as a vision in 2019 has grown into five impactful projects that are creating lasting change in Cambodia.

Over the past few months, we partnered with The Good Life Media House to produce a short video showcasing the first three Chikara Cambodia projects. Alongside our very first video from 2019, it tells the story of how far we’ve come—and how much more is possible when organizations work together.

At Chikara Cambodia, we believe that lasting impact is created through collaboration. Together for a Cleaner World is more than our motto—it is the driving force behind everything we do.

💙📚 Creating new opportunities for young people in Cambodia

Later this year, we will welcome a new group of young students into the Chikara Cambodia programme who would otherwise have little or no chance to pursue higher education.

Together with the principal of Prasat Bakong High School, the first selection process has taken place. The Chikara Cambodia Board conducted the interviews and home visits, and the candidates are now entering an assessment period that will continue until November.

After the final selection, and with the support of a Chikara scholarship, they will begin both their Chikara journey and their university journey.

Because education changes lives. 🌱✨

Building Sustainable Environmental Education Together 🌱

The Happy Clean Cambodia project (Chikara’s number 4 project) is expanding to more schools out of the 40 schools we work with!

Our goal is to make environmental education sustainable by embedding it into the school system. Happy Green World Each school signs an agreement, receives the Happy Clean Cambodia methodology, teachers are trained and supported and monitored by the local Stichting Chikara Cambodia team Rith SreyYon en Sill SreyYen. Certified for Child Safety

The Stichting Chikara Cambodia youth, together with the Chikara local team Buntheoun Ros Sill SreyYen Rith SreyYon and the co-founders Giel Hagelaar and Carina van Silfhout-Moné, successfully completed a Child Safe training by Friends-International.

Everyone passed successfully the training and is now even better equipped to work safely and responsibly with the 40 primary schools where they deliver hygiene and environmental workshops and education.

A great step forward in strengthening both impact and protection.

Due to the current situation at the border in Cambodia, many refugees have arrived in the Stichting Chikara Cambodia project area of Prasat Bakong. At this moment, it remains uncertain when they will be able to return home. To offer children a sense of stability, they are receiving education at schools in this region—schools with which Chikara Cambodia already collaborates. Unfortunately, these schools do not have sufficient educational resources to accommodate the displaced children.

Thanks to the support of our donors and in collaboration with our local partner Hun Rerngsey, we were able to provide 240 learning material packages. This enables 240 children to continue learning despite the difficult circumstances.

In this way, we help restore hope, something that is only possible thanks to your support.

✨ The Power of Collaboration in Cambodia

Co-founders Giel Hagelaar and Carina van Silfhout-Moné look back with great satisfaction on two intensive and successful months in Cambodia. Together with our Chikara youth, Rith SreyYon, Sill SreyYen, , local team and partners, we continued working toward our mission: “Educate for a cleaner world.”

In the past weeks, we launched Project 4 ‘Happy Clean Cambodia’ together with Marlou Bessem and Coos Hoogendoorn Happy Green World. We further strengthened and optimized the other four Chikara projects, ensuring they can continue to grow, remain sustainable, and create lasting impact for the communities we work with.

None of this would be possible without the dedication of our young leaders, teachers, partners FACCH, Hun Rerngsey, Eco-Soap Bank Cambodia, Panha Sabay Cambodia, and everyone who believes in the power of education and collaboration.

Together, we build a cleaner and brighter future. 🌍💚
