The two founders, Debbie and Gita, met in Singapore in 2011.

The core objective of 6° Network for Women is to create a foundation for marginalised women to set up and run successful businesses in order to create better quality of lives and gain financial independence. They both were career mothers, facing the daily challenges of managing work and family and to find the right balance. In 2017, Debbie and Gita decided to set up 6° Academy for Women with the mission to improve the quality of lives for marginalised women in developing countries. In 2021, after more than four years of operation, the organisation is renamed 6° Network for Women and the operation has expanded to cover four activities.

1) Our foundation 6° Academy we will offer customised training programmes and toolkits and create a risk free environment in which our candidates can learn how to perform their jobs in the best way possible.

2) 6° Ventures is a social enterprise that provides consulting services, loans, funds and ongoing support to marginalised women who want to set up small businesses. The income generated from 6° Ventures is reinvested to fund new projects or used to fund other non-profit operations of 6° Network for Women.

3) 6° Pay-it-Forward focuses on grassroots women empowerment campaigns. Through 6° Pay-it-Forward, graduates, candidates and women who have benefited from our programmes give back through their participation in awareness campaigns and contributing to our Pay-it-Forward fund. Leveraging the power of 6° Network for Women, we hope to create awareness and provide proof of the societal and economic impact that up-skilling and providing income earning opportunities bring to marginalised women and their communities.

4) Connecting Hands by 6° serves as emergency relief efforts for communities hit by natural disasters, pandemic and other emergency causes. Connecting Hands by 6° collects donations, secures necessary supplies such as food, shelter and medicine to provide to the community in distress. Nepal was chosen as the country to start in as it holds a very special place in our hearts, also being Gita's birth country. We would love for you to be a part of our effort, and together we can help as many women as possible through the 6° network.

🐝 A new beginning for 15 women in Nepal🇳🇵

In Chitwan, 15 women are taking their first steps towards becoming beekeepers and building a more independent future. 💛

Through Let Me Bee, 6 Degrees Network for Women, together with our local partner Jhuwani Community Library, is supporting these women in setting up their own beekeeping businesses — creating opportunities to earn their own income and achieve greater financial independence.

On 28 September, we officially kicked off the project with an inauguration ceremony! 🎉

🐝 Our next goal? 100 beehives for these 15 women! We’ll be launching a fundraising campaign soon to help turn this dream into reality. Together, we can make a lasting difference.

🐝 Een nieuw begin voor 15 vrouwen in Nepal 🇳🇵

In Chitwan zetten 15 vrouwen hun eerste stappen op weg naar een eigen imkerij en een zelfstandiger toekomst. 💛

Met Let Me Bee ondersteunt 6 Degrees Network for Women deze vrouwen, samen met onze lokale partner Jhuwani Community Library, bij het opzetten van hun eigen bijenhouderij. Zo krijgen zij de kans om een eigen inkomen te verdienen en financieel zelfstandiger te worden.

Op 28 september vond de officiële start van het project plaats! 🎉

🐝 Ons volgende doel? 100 bijenkasten voor deze 15 vrouwen!
Binnenkort starten we een fondsenwervingscampagne om deze droom werkelijkheid te maken. Samen kunnen we een blijvende impact creëren.

✨Als één vrouw vooruitkomt, beweegt een hele gemeenschap mee ✨

Met trots delen we het prachtige artikel dat onlangs verscheen in het Wereld Magazine, met de inspirerende levensverhalen van Kusumi en Nanu. Twee sterke Nepalese vrouwen die hun eigen weg hebben gevonden en inmiddels uitgroeien tot echte rolmodellen binnen hun gemeenschap ❤️.
Hun verhalen laten zien wat er kan gebeuren wanneer vrouwen de kans krijgen om zich te ontwikkelen, hun talenten te benutten en zelf de regie over hun toekomst te nemen.
We zijn ontzettend trots op hen én dankbaar dat hun verhalen mogen worden verteld 🙏.

🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿: The project of in Nepal has come to an end! The 6degrees team would like to thank you so much for your dedication and effort! We asked Eva a few final questions about her experience 🙏!

-What was the most beautiful or unique moment you experienced with the women?

It is difficult to choose just one moment from all the experiences we had. Everything here was an experience in itself. Nepal and the Netherlands are incredibly different from each other, and on top of that, this group of women is very special to have had the opportunity to work with. That made the entire period incredibly unique in itself.

-How did you help the women expand and develop their skills?

I started by building a relationship of trust. During the first two weeks, I mainly focused on observing, immersing myself in the culture, and talking a lot with the women.
After that, together with Gita and Debbie, I determined the desired situation, with goals such as working more proactively, collaborating, and using the weekly board. Through various workshops, but especially by coaching, challenging, and giving the women confidence on a daily basis, I helped them further develop these skills.

-What challenges did you face during your time in Nepal?

During my ten weeks at the Soap Studio, the heat and the cultural differences were my biggest challenges. As I had been warned, the heat was incredibly intense! 🥵 Luckily, we had air conditioning.
The cultural differences sometimes made it difficult to find the right approach as a coach—one that suited both the women and the culture. It was often quite a puzzle! A big thank you to hand gestures and gut feelings for helping me along the way 😉.

🇳🇱: Het project van in Nepal zit erop! Het 6degrees-team wilt je heel erg bedanken voor je inzet! We hebben Eva nog een paar laatste vragen gesteld over haar ervaring 🙏!

- Wat was het mooiste meest unieke moment dat je met de vrouwen hebt meegemaakt?

Het is lastig om uit alle belevenissen één moment te kiezen. Alles was hier een ervaring. Nepal en Nederland verschillen enorm van elkaar en daarnaast is deze groep vrouwen heel bijzonder om mee te mogen werken. Dat maakte de hele periode op zichzelf al ontzettend uniek.

- Hoe heb jij ervoor gezorgd dat de vrouwen hun vaardigheden hebben kunnen uitbreiden?

Ik ben begonnen met het opbouwen van een vertrouwensband door de eerste twee weken vooral te observeren, mee te gaan in de cultuur en veel met de vrouwen te praten.
Daarna heb ik samen met Gita en Debbie de gewenste situatie bepaald, met doelen zoals proactiever werken, samenwerken en het gebruik van het weekboard. Met verschillende workshops, maar vooral door dagelijks te coachen, uit te dagen en vertrouwen te geven, heb ik de vrouwen geholpen om deze vaardigheden verder te ontwikkelen

- Met wat voor tegenslagen heb je te maken gehad tijdens je periode in Nepal?

Tijdens mijn tien weken in de Soap Studio waren de warmte en het cultuurverschil mijn grootste uitdagingen. De warmte was, zoals gewaarschuwd, ontzettend heet! 🥵 Gelukkig hadden we airco.
Het cultuurverschil maakte het soms lastig om als coach de juiste aanpak te vinden die zowel bij de vrouwen als bij de cultuur paste. Het was regelmatig een flinke puzzel! Grote dank aan handen en voeten, onderbuiken en beste beentjes voor 😉.

🇳🇱:

✨Eva, de dames en de wishtree✨

Onze vrijwilliger is samen met de dames naast de weekplanning ook bezig geweest om een Wishtree te bouwen!

De wishtree, een unieke en creatieve manier om dromen en wensen van de dames te kunnen vangen. Dit werd de afgelopen weken gedaan door middel van workshops die gegeven werden door Eva waarbij zij door middel van vragen stellen ervoor zorgde dat de vrouwen mooie doelen voor zichzelf konden stellen op papier 📝.

Het volgende proces is dan ervoor zorgen dat de dromen in de boom worden geplaatst zodat de dromen zichtbaar zijn, met als doel daadwerkelijk nadenken over hun toekomst, maar ook om te zien waar de behoefte van de vrouwen ligt.

✨Eva, the ladies, and the Wish Tree✨

In addition to working on the weekly schedule, our volunteer has been busy building a “Wish Tree” with the ladies!

The Wish Tree offers a unique and creative way to capture the ladies’ dreams and wishes. Over the past few weeks, Eva has conducted workshops where she asked questions to help the women set meaningful goals for themselves on paper📝.

The next step involves placing these dreams in the tree so they are visible; the aim is to encourage the women to reflect on their futures while also gaining insight into their specific needs.
