The International People’s Tribunal is set up to address the culture of impunity, to break down the vicious cycle of denial, distortion, taboo and secrecy in Indonesia. In the first place it will give voice to the victims of the crimes against humanity which have been committed in '65/'66. The Tribunal will in addition provide a public record of the crimes against humanity committed after October
1st 1965. The 2012 report of the Indonesian National Human Rights Commission has been the first public record of these crimes, but it has never received recognition of the state of Indonesia and no action has been undertaken thus far. The Tribunal will also help in opening the eyes of the international community to one of the darkest periods of the 20th century, which seems to have been forgotten before justice has been served.
