Exemplary community pharmacy initiatives that empower people to take greater control of their health will be recognised through a new FIP self-care award, launched today by FIP on World Pharmacists Day, under the theme “Empowering pharmacists for healthier futures.”
“Self-care is one of the ways the pharmacy profession can empower communities for healthier futures. Through this new award, we want to shine a light on the innovative work taking place in community pharmacies around the world,” said FIP CEO Catherine Duggan.
The award will be presented for the first time at the 85th FIP World Congress of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The award is supported by unconditional funding from Opella.

Further details, including the official name and award criteria, will be announced in the coming months, with expressions of interest expected to open soon thereafter.

“Empowering pharmacists for healthier futures” is the theme of World Pharmacists Day on 25 September 2026.
As healthcare needs continue to evolve — driven by demographic change, noncommunicable diseases, digital transformation and climate pressures —empowering pharmacists with the skills, recognition and system support they need has never been more important.

Pharmacists’ critical contribution to prevention, access to care, health system resilience and sustainability is highlighted in this year’s theme “Empowering pharmacists for healthier futures”. As global health challenges intensify, FIP, the global leader in advancing pharmacy, calls on governments, policymakers, regulators, health insurers and the public to strengthen supportive policies, invest in education and ensure the full integration within health systems.

Every day, pharmacists across the world address critical health needs. World Pharmacists Day is our opportunity to celebrate and make visible the profession’s contributions to better health outcomes. It is also a time to advocate for the full integration of pharmacists into health strategies and to remind governments, institutions, and stakeholders that investing in pharmacists is investing in a healthier future for all.

Pharmacists bring essential expertise to safer medicine use and better patient care.

To mark World Pharmacists Day, we are pleased to share a television feature from North Macedonia with Mikhail Minov, Master of Pharmacy, representing the Pharmaceutical Chamber of North Macedonia.

The discussion highlights pharmacists’ contributions to supporting treatment adherence, optimizing medication use, and addressing the risks associated with polypharmacy—reflecting the vital role of our profession in responding to patients’ everyday healthcare needs.

A roadmap for the advancement of community pharmacy in Latin America has been launched by the Pharmaceutical Forum of the Americas (PFA): https://www.fip.org/file/6673.
Built over more than two years with pharmacy organisations across Latin America and in close alignment with FIP, the roadmap moves beyond identifying challenges to set out a regional framework for action. It highlights priority areas for strengthening community pharmacy, developing the pharmaceutical workforce, expanding professional services, integrating pharmacists within health systems, and shaping the regulatory and policy frameworks needed to support the evolution of health care towards 2030.
