Director-General Dallafior visited the OPCW Situation Centre, the operational hub that supports inspectors before and throughout their deployments and maintains secure connectivity between field teams and Headquarters.

In honour of , the OPCW connected with 550 students from 43 countries at Singapore to explore chemical weapons non-proliferation, disarmament and the importance of international cooperation.

Organized by the World Federation of United Nations Associations, initiatives like this help deepen understanding among young people and encourage their contribution to advancing the goals of the Chemical Weapons Convention.

Director-General Sabrina Dallafior visited the OPCW Centre for Chemistry and Technology (CCT), meeting with staff and seeing firsthand its work in support of the Chemical Weapons Convention.

🔍🧪 How do OPCW inspectors collect samples?

By following strict scientific procedures and a chain of custody. Inspectors use detection equipment to identify where samples should be taken, while dedicated team members document every step with notes and photos.

From liquids and solids to surface wipes, biomedical samples, and whole objects, each sample is carefully collected, logged, and tracked to ensure its integrity.

Through meticulous sample collection and analysis, OPCW inspectors help uncover the facts and work towards a world .

The 27th OPCW Associate Programme has officially kickstarted in The Hague!

The Programme brings together participants from around the world to strengthen national implementation of the and promote the peaceful uses of chemistry.

“The Associate Programme is not simply a training course - it is an investment in people and in the future of the Convention,” said Deputy Director-General Kaapanda-Girnus.

Over the next nine weeks, participants will gain valuable knowledge and practical skills from experts across the OPCW, academia, industry, and partner organisations.

A warm welcome to Mekondjo Kaapanda-Girnus, the OPCW's new Deputy Director-General.

As the Director-General's principal deputy and most senior adviser, the Deputy Director-General helps ensure the OPCW operates effectively on a day-to-day basis and that the Organisation's strategic priorities are translated into action across the Technical Secretariat.

Deputy Director-General Kaapanda-Girnus brings extensive experience in diplomacy, international law, and multilateral affairs. Prior to joining the OPCW she served as Ambassador of the Republic of Namibia to Belgium, the Netherlands, Luxembourg and the European Union, and as Namibia's Permanent Representative to the OPCW.
